Halifax Websavers - change NOW for better interest!

Hi All,

If you have one or more Halifax Websavers, the rate has gradually dropped to 4.21% (without card accounts).

For a limited time, they have launched new Websavers which are paying 5.8% (without card - something like 5.3% with card I think).

It is really easy to open a new Websaver account online, move your money in from the old Websaver (except £1) then close the old account and get the odd £1.00 moved over.

I have several of these as you can have up to 5 per person - I use them as short-term 'pots' for money earmarked for various things like holiday spending, DIY projects, whatever. I've just changed all mine to the new ones to get the higher interest rates.

If you have a 10% reg. saver and it is your 'nominated account' you may need to make sure that these details get changed too......

Hope this helps some of you!

I have just opened one now, but it is not showing up as a "Reward" account, nor displaying the rate of interest.

Yes I have the same problem...there is no indication that it is the REWARD a/c that is set up. The setup screen says select without cash card to get the 5.8% Reward before 5 Aug but nowhere during setup screens does it say which specific a/c is setup. In the end I backed out from completing the setup.
  • Hi all, this is my very first post, so please excuse if its a bit basic.
I have just opened a Halifax RS online. Got halfway through and computer crashed. Went back to My Accounts and surprised to see RS account and nominated Web Saver variable already set up. So I rang them to check all had gone through and to query the nom. a/c. as I wanted the 5.8% Reward one. Girl first told me you couldn't have that, so I pointed out it was listed online as an eligible account. She then told me to close the one they had set up & apply for the Reward one(but she didn't know how to use online services, so couldn't tell me how - do you believe it !!!!)
Like you, I have opened the account but it def. does not say REWARD so I still don't know !! Am I regretting this - I think so!

Same here, but it clearly shows it on their savings application page and it only started on the 9th July.
I would guess Halifax haven`t updated their software yet.

    UPDATE
Just spoke to Halifax and was told the rate will be shown on the account tomorrow.

    We`ll see!

Yeah I had this issue before! I changed the name of the account to "Reward' so I knew what it was for, same as the one I opened in January that had the bonus, I called 'Bonus', which ends in a few days so good I opened this.

NOW, does anyone know if I close an account before the anniversary (Ie: the date of interest being paid) will I get credited with the interest up til now or will I lose it all? Just so I know whether or not to leave my old web saver open or not.

You will recieve interest based upon the number of days you have had your money in the account.
  • Interest is showing as 5.8% this morning.

Closed my old websaver yesterday, closing balance plus interest has been credited into nominated account today.

Thanks for the post. I initially had variable rate web saver, then moved to variable rate with card option when they came up with the bonus till 18th July. I was wondering what to do next as there is only a couple of days left before 18th - they have came up with this, so would probably do this now. Thanks OP.

This account quotes 5.8% AER, that means it is the same for gross rate as well because interest is paid annually?
