any chance of succesful ebaying with no pictures?

I have loads I would love to try and sell on ebay, but no camera, and no means to buy one.
I want to raise extra cash as I am expecting a baby very soon, but have noticed the listings without pictures always tend to go unsold.
This is understandable, particularly with clothes etc.
any ideas on how to get round it or is it a lost cause?

  • I would try to beg steal or borrow a digital camera! Even a mobile phone pic is better than no pic, I think you could probaby buy a dirt cheap webcam with a photo facility for about a fiver! Good luck though, but you're right - listings without a photo always attract less viewers/buyers/bids.

In my early days selling I had the same problem or at least the pics I did have were not good enough, it's relatively easy to lift a pic from someone elses auction so if its a new or easiliy recognisable product from the packaging just go on a hunt and steal a few pics, not so easy if you are selling second hand items though as a pic of a new item would be misleading in fact a pic of anything other than the actual item in my opinion would not be an honest representation.

Do you have someone you know who does have a digicam if so invite them round for an evening to photograph all your items and cook them a dinner in repayment that way you may even get help with your listings too.

Also if you have a webcam this will double as a still camera.

we tried using oh's mobile, but they were awful! it's one of the first camera phones, so pretty shoddy.
it is mostly my old clothes and some pink baby clothes bought in error (we are having a boy!)
as for videos and books etc, I have taken the pictures from amazon (hope this isn't illegal!)

we don't know anyone with a digital camera, at least no one who lives nearby..i did think about developing normal pics and scanning them in an internet cafe but i'm sure this would end up costing more than it's worth.

i don't suppose the free trial with which magazine online is still running is it - they were giving away a free digicam with it - camera is almost certainly bobbins but might be good enough for ebay purposes. have a look on the freebies board - i think that's where it was listed.

    thanks for that!
I will get one..any ideas how long it will take to arrive?
We will have a digital camera of our own in three weeks when my mum visits, as she lives pretty far away so is long term loaning hers so we can email her baby pics all the time.
I just wanted to do the ebaying asap as we need a few things before the birth.

Took a digicam which came on offer from Which magazine as part of their 'three month free trial' - carp camera but did the job for a few photos for ebay - might be worth checking if this offer is still ongoing.

For books and videos I've used a scanner - has given me OK images every time (so far)

  • As people have said above, try and get hold of a camera if you possibly can (or use a scanner where appropriate). Items will sometimes sell without a camera, but you can't expect anywhere near as much, as many budders will stay away from auctions without a picture (the majority of people of here would recommend that to a new bidder, I'm sure).

Do you know a friend with a camera, or a family member. A couple of hours with a camera, taking pictures of all your items will easily suffice, am sure someone will be willing to help!

    Good luck...

thanks to the above two posters, I would click the 'thanks' button but it seems to be stupidly overused on these boards..doesn't really help..(i.e in this case the same advice has been given and 'thanked' gratefully)
Is it just me who reads every post in a thread before posting a response?
...and don't get me started on people thanking an opinion in the m.s. arms...why!?
Just realised I sound a bit gnarly, but it's all what I think..and I can blame the hormones..hehehehe

  • well...call me old fashioned but I always think its nice to say thank you, its not really hard work just to click the 'thanks' button, and if someone is trying to help or be kind or even just give us a giggle a little thank you is no big deal really?? :)
