watching TV on the computer no need to pay

I am happily a member of the group on the receiving end of Weegie.geek's insults.
I find the notion that a simple call to say you only use your TV to play games on and watch DVD's will get your off paying the License Fee completely ludicrous.
I don't much care for the loopholes people think they can play on.
Im my most humble opinion, those exceptions probably only exist to allow playgroups or communial areas/ schools etc to show DVD's/games etc and not pay a license fee.
I think weegie should stop insulting posters and try it out. You'd be laughed out of court!
If you own a Telly, you need a license or face a fine.0 -
How many times do people have to be told, you can own as many televisions as you want but if you do not watch live broadcasts you do NOT need a licence (not license).
I think the point is that *legally* that's the case..in terms of enforcement, though, it's not so easy...Otherwise everyone would just turn around and say "oh yeah, I never watch TV...I just use it for DVDs", wouldn't they...
I know one of my mates had this argument with them once...He didn't even have an aerial on his TV - he still ended up having to pay...0 -
The BBC have stated that a licence is not needed simply because a television receiver is owned.
TV Licensing enforces the BBC's statutory obligation to ensure that every address where a television licence is required is correctly licensed, but its agents have no special rights and, like any other member of the public, rely on an implied right of access to reach the front door. The occupants of a visited property may deny an agent entry to the premises without cause and are under no obligation to answer any questions or enter into any conversation.0 -

@CHR15, it looks like we're wrong.

I don't dispute I am wrong. I just don't accept we can all make a phone call and never pay our fees anymore. Daft!

Seems true from what the website says, but it's horrendously unfair to charge someone who's watching RTL or whatever. I haven't dug too deep so I'm not 100% sure on the law here.
I wonder what'd happen if it went to court? I'd like to see a decision made in court either way. I'd like to see how they'd justify enforcing a tv license that only pays for UK channels (and not even all of them) when the person breaking the law wasn't watching any UK channels.
With there being so much choice these days in terms of programming and the providers of that programming, they really need to reform the laws. Far too many things that don't make sense. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

Absolutely, the TVLA will be a pain in the !!!! about it, but you can be a pain in their !!!! as well. It's not for you to prove you're not watching TV, it's for them to prove you are, and I reckon they'd be hard pushed to prove it even if you were.
They'll continue with their disinformation and bully tactics, but they (and lots of others apparently) plain can't conceive of there being people out there who don't watch TV. I'm not one of those people who's all "tv rots your mind! You're all idiots, read a book!". I just don't really watch TV. I download some TV and I watch a shedload of films but actual live sitting in front of the tv I don't have the inclination to do. I'd rather play games than watch corrie.
The BBC put out some great stuff, as do channel 4, but I'd rather watch things as and when I want as opposed to when it's scheduled to be on. Sure, I could buy a PVR but then I'd be spending £140 a year for a handful of programs and then the price of a PVR, for only a few tv shows.surely you can be fined, because you _could_ be potentially watching live TV?
Luckily that's not the way it works. :rolleyes:They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
