    I could tell. ;)

I'm sure there's no 'conspiracy' going on. It's just that when you launch a good product you're bound to be inundated with applications...especially with the power of internet sites like this one.

I don't think that setting on (substantial numbers of) additional staff would help, because I suspect ISA transfers are manual/specialist/regulated work and it wouldn't be worth training additional staff for what might only be a 6-8 week rush?

I'm sure we wouldn't feel as bad though, if the providers contacted us saying that there was a delay and assuring us (in writing) that interest would be backdated to the day after it left the previous provider.

I have finally received a reply from the Financial Ombudsman that they will be looking into my complaint, unfortunately they are overwhelmed with complaints and there may be a delay? It sounds like Nationwide are subcontracting their incompetence to the FO?

I have followed the Nationwide complaint system with letters to the correct people and allowed the 56 days required for them to reply, which they havent complied with.

I have only recieved the stock reply that they will look into it. So from 10th April till today, they still havent opened two ISA's for the 2008/9 year and transferred an ISA from NS&I, although NS&I wrote to me in early May informing me my ISA's had been sent to Nationwide.

It would appear despite following all the correct procedures, I am stuck with having nowhere to go, although now considering the small claims court to get a response from Nationwide.

I am very suprised and disappointed that Martin has not taken an interest in this, as I know this is not an isolated case.

I also followed NW's procedures for making a complaint and received a letter saying they'd send me a full reply by 15 July. I've not received that reply yet (no surprise there!) but I haven't tried chasing them up yet. I'm leaving it till early August.

The 56 days is in mid-August some time. If things still aren't resolved then I'll add to the burden of the Ombudsman.

I do appreciate that NW have been swamped but after all my dealings with them over the last five months I feel confident in saying their problems are more to do with incompetence than workloads.

My first letter saying I would get a response gave the date of 3rd June, on the 8th June I recieved a letter saying "My enquiries are going well? however I shall respond by 1st July, my last letter said "My enquiries are going well etc I will respond by 29th July ?

I will give them till the 29th July and then file a small claims court proceedings for loss of interest on the £13,200 and see what response it elicits.

I did send the details through the Daily Mail ISA help article, I even received a response in the form of a letter from Nationwide, saying that MR Graham Beale the Chief Executive had received a copy of my letter which I had sent to the Daily Mail, the letter had been forwarded to the Executive team within the ISA Department and they took my complaint very seriously (yawn) and would respond within 28 days. That letter was dated 16th July.

    So best of luck.

Today I have finally received three of the four ISA's I tried to open with Nationwide on 10th April. On enew ISA for this year and one transfer for last year for both my wife and I, Just waiting for the last. I like the letter with the ISA bond....we apologise for the delay :rotfl: 10th April to 16th August !! nah, not a problem, think nothing of it, but clearly they didnt.

Is the Nationwide the most incompetent financial institution  or does anyone have a story which can trump this.
