Took Mum 90 and MIL 83 to US 18 months ago. Travelled Gatwick Detroit with an American line (can't remember which). The airline were fine only problems were Gatwick Airport in total meltdown - wall to wall people - 2 hour queues for security and no wheel chairs despite one being ordered and confirmed days earlier. I was told Mum could queue for security and get a chair the other side!!!! Mum can walk a little and this was the only time I had decided not to take her own wheelchair. No access to disabled toliets because of sheer volume of people.

The rest of the trip was fine - they eventually found us a wheelchair but I would always take my own in future. American immigration fine - prompt assistance - oldies did not get fingerprinted and we did not have to queue anywhere. They were in fact very pleasant coming in to Detroit (not always the case).

The fare was a good deal - at least £100 less PP than we could get with a British carrier.

Not sure if you have annual insurance but if not take care when booking the time span. If we had gone for 1 day less insurance would have been significantly cheaper.

Have a great time - Mum & Mil arrived in much better shape than us!!!
