  • My personal method for getting to sleep on a busy or worried mind is:

    Get as relaxed and comfortable as you can.
    Simply count 1,2,3,4 again and again
    Try to find a rhythm you are comfortable with, as fast or slow as you like. either count on every heartbeat, or every time you exhale or inhale (or maybe evert second breath. Whatever you feel comfortable with)
    Focus on the numbers. Visualise them. Picture them in your mind as you count. No real rules here either - maybe picture a totally black background and a white number '1' (or vice versa)
    1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4

    Focus really hard on thinking on nothing else except the numbers

    Occasionally, your mind wanders and you find that you have lost your place and you are actually thinking about something else. As soon as you become aware that you have lost the focus, you start again

    (and since you're only counting up to 4, it's not as if you have to go a long way back to the start)

    Just my own little method for nodding off after a busy mental day.
