....... you could always get a sick note from doctor to cancel holiday and claim on your insurance?

Thats the second time in two days I have seen this kind of advice given. I really don't think its appropriate.

Assuming you can change the names and sell the tickets on, I'm sure there's a market. What about ebay? I've no idea how to do this as I'm not a seller but I've seen holidays on there.

If you can persuade your ex to sell them (and I'm sure someone would love this holiday) you can book yourself something.

I found that when I was first single I enjoyed doing stuff my ex would never have done, such as going on activity holidays. There are some organisations that cater for solo travellers, such as Spice https://www.spiceuk.com in case you feel like escaping.

  • Thank you. I'm just going to retreat to my mothers in Scotland at the time the Canada holiday should have been, just to lick my wounds. But next year, I will certainly look into the Spice stuff, as I would quite enjoy activity type holiday, whereas he would not have.

    Thanks again.

I did quite a lot of Spice activities when I was first single though haven't for a while. Lots of people come on their own and there is so much choice (Evening and weekend events too as well as the trips). I'd recommend it for someone building a new life or even for someone wanting to try new stuff (I discovered surfing which I love and had never tried before - After a few weekends surfing with Spice a group of us did our own thing.)

Retreating to your mothers sounds like a good idea too - a bit of TLC and space is probably just what you need.

  • for anyone who enquired about possibly buying this holiday, Canadian Affair mailed me and said no name changes are permitted, the holiday would have to be re-booked at todays prices... so I guess that's the end of that!
    sorry.

You poor thing - all that money! You will deserve a break when you feel up to it and can afford it. Still, it's better than going on holiday with an ex!

While I do understand something_girl's disappointment, if the documents are in her ex's name and he paid for his own ticket, he is entitled to still go if he wants to!

  • I don't really fancy driving the miles from Toronto up to quebec and back, yikes! Nah, I wouldn't do it on my own, 2 weeks in a sunny holiday resort, yes, but not touring through Canada, where I have never been!
