Sorry. Just read your problem again. If you can't install ZA then obviously resetting the database will be of little use to you.

    Sorry.

I have tried several times to download and install the latest free zonealarm from download.com but it constantly says 'set up was unable to find the msi set up package or patch'

I've always used zonealarm but I have to use something else now as it just will not let me download it.

I have got the same sort of problem. I have had to turn off zone alarm  most annoying  as its always worked well in all the years i have used it. I want too keep on using it so if anyone sees a fix can they please post it.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.

Zonealarm's site is now back ad they have a fix for W2K and XP users affected by the MS patch at http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pressReleases/2008/LossOfInternetAccessIssue.html.

Because the sensible interim solution was to remove the update or change Zone Alarm's Internet or Trusted Zone Security to Medium.

    Thanx

Issue with windows update and zonealarm is fixed now although the msi problem seems to happen intermittently so its definitely something they have to address although its been a problem for a long time don't know if they will ever get to the bottom of it.
    Thanx
