Perhaps not quite as odd as Varsha and Cerney suddenly chipping in to a thread that was already well over a year old!!!
I don't see why I should have to justify myself but, like harvey107, I too was conducting some background research on The CV Centre and, apart from their own website pages, this forum thread was the top result on Google. I can't say it's been very helpful to me though!
Anyway, contributing to harvey107's original question, I can certainly find quite a few references to The CV Centre on Google but, if this is what you're looking for, I couldn't really find anything negative above them - which I suppose must be a good sign really - given that the second result on Google says they've been in business for 12 years (or so they claim - you can never be sure can you...).
I think the most interesting (i.e. useful) page I found in the Top 20 on Google was probably an Amazon page about "The CV Book: Your Definitive Guide to Writing the Perfect CV" - seems The CV Centre's MD has even written a book on the subject.[/FONT]

But I'm going to butt out of this forum now and leave you all to it. It doesn't seem to cost much to get your CV professionally written but, until I do so, I obviously can't tell you whether or not I think it's worth it. I think I'll buy a book first though and maybe give it a whirl myself, if only to get my thoughts down on paper before handing it over to someone else to finish off.

Why not just use the university careers service for CV writing?
They've got years of experience, there's probably someone with years of experience writing CVs for people who've graduated in your particular fielf, they know what employers are looking for with regards to jobs in the field you are looking for jobs in and it doesn't cost you anything.0 -

Thanks, MrsManda. I have tried that but, although they were very friendly, I got the impression they were somewhat out of touch. (But I'm sure that obviously varies from uni to uni; I didn't exactly go to the best of universities...) The current version of my CV, I can largely thank a recruitment agency for. They weren't exactly keen to spend much time on it but they certainly gave me some helpful pointers - and obviously it didn't cost a thing. But it can still do with some improvement. I've dug up loads of advice on the web but so much of it seems to be contradictory. Like I say, I'm going to get a book or two and see what I can pick up from them. I just hope they don't contradict each other too!0 -

bestpud,
I'm sorry but I'm really not sure where I've offended you or what your problem is.
What have I done that you consider to be spam?
This is only, I think, the third time I've ever contributed to any forum so perhaps there's some aspect of the etiquette I'm failing to grasp.
It was certainly not my intention to upset anyone; I was trying to be constructive and share my thoughts/research.0 -
[STRIKE]Two[/STRIKE] Three posts and [STRIKE]both[/STRIKE]all spam - well done

reported too - not even a subtle attempt at spam!:happyhear0

Ahh! Scary thread to walk in on!
I don't really know much about this but I'm a little concerned now in case I inadvertently act like a spammer!?!
with regards to the original subject; I've also had problems writing my CV. We touched upon it briefly at uni but it wasn't until I graduated that I realised I really didn't know enough. I'm not interested in paying someone to do it for me as I'd much rather do it myself and be independent. Still, it's tough when you don't know where to start.
I guess my main questions surround just how much description I include. For example; how much work experience/relevant employment is it worth listing and how much space should I devote to each one?
Also, is it worth having the 'about me/interests' section or is it just a self-indulgent waste of space?
Thanks,
Jenna0
