They know everything, where you go, how much you download, how long for, if you're doing FTP, HTTP, P2P, etc, transfers.... that's how music companies prosecute file sharers, how child !!!!!! people get caught... did I mention that if you use their SMTP server, they also know what emails you send?

There is a sentence containing bears and woods that is appropriate here. All ISPs no exactly how much of each type of traffic is being generated on its' network and can also see how much traffic is coming from any one customer.

So if I go onto a "limited download" package they will know when I brake that limit?

The reason I ask is I dont think I download a lot so I rang my ISP to see what I have downloaded over the last couple of months and was told that they dont know:confused::confused: so if I go on a limited package how will they know when I have exceeded my limit:confused:

Yes they'll know when you exceed the download limit. There internal systems will flag it up when and if you exceed it.

As for when you ring up, its most likely a simple case that the adviser didn't have the information in front of them.

Remember when they say 'download' they don't mean when you literally download something i.e. files, programmes on IPlayer, music etc. Every page you access is downloaded to your computer and counts as part of your download limit - someone might be able to tell you how to work out what your usage is.

Call them up & if the person cannot give you the answer asked to be put through to someone that can?

We're not mind readers. Use a little common sense please.
