Morning
Last night mcafee detected a virus thing on my pc listed as javainstaller.jar-5aa0b436-17d99462.zip, which couldn't be cleaned so is quarantined. I think this was also called generic v., but i acn't remember where i saw that.
Trend micro also couldn't clean this, JAVA_BYTEVER.A, which I assume is the same thing.
How do i get rid of this?
Also on the microsoft site, here, I came across this stuff about vulnerabilities in microsoft vm when i searched for info.
(lol, i just realised i sound like I know what i'm talking about!)
What should i do? Also, where might it have come from?
On the trend micro site, it said I should disable system restore to do a full scan, but if i do that don't I lost all my restore points?
Confused

reboot your computer
go into safe mode by pressing one of the F keys i think its F8 but im not sure
run the antivirus again and see if it delates the virus
if the antivirus dont work look for the file manualy and delete it0 -
Avast Antivirus will clean it no probs, as I did it on a customers PC.0

It's quarantined so it's effectively seperated from your system, you can delete by looking through mcafee options & deleting quarantined files. But it can't do any harm in quaratine.
I suspect the second file was stored in the first & will be gone, when you run a full scan.0 -
i hate mcafee with a passion and its up the end of the month so i will be switching anyhow.
When i look in mcafee at quarantined files, it won't clean but i haven't tried deleting it yet - does that actually remove it for good pretty much, if i delelte it through mcafee?0 -
Delete means complete removal.....0

Try:- From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel
In the Control Panel, open the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"
Select the Cache Tab
Click the Clear button inside the Cache Tab, which will clear your JRE cache directory0 -

I had a similar thing and have tried antivirus and other spyware stuff but it wasn't deleted or anything (again with Java in the title). I've just tried as solly said (see quote) and it has gone! I think this is the answer as it sounds similar to mine.Torgwen..........
