this is so stupid natwest are the worst bank i have ever been with in my life.
im so fcuked off right now.
about 1 month and a half ago. i opened an account a step account with a solo card thought everything would be fine with that.
i wait for my card to come thru my door it eventually comes after 2 weeks of waiting. and then i sign this form so it activates my card sent it off to edinbrugh (IF thats how u spell it) waited for it to be activated. then it finnaly complete, expect the account number i put on that letter was the last 8 digits on my card not that 8 digits shown on my cheque book i didnt know this.
i contacted them to see if it was okay they said its fine they would sort it out. nothing happend.
and then i went to my local branch and they said the account was active. so i signed upto paypal online.
and someone paid me £10 for something i sold. so i sent the £10 to my bank. its been there for 14 days in my bank but it wont let me take it out or use it in a shop as when i put my card in a atm machine it says its not there the money it says £10.04 at the top. then £0 at the bottom.
it has done for 14 days now. so then i tried to spend the £10 on my card in the local shop. put the card in the chip and pin machine thing to pay for my stuff.
it said my card was rejected 3 times.
My account must not be active so i think im going to sue natwest. as they've told me my account is active i surely have a case.
seeing as step accounts don't have cheque books I'm at a loss as to why you didn't put the account number on that you were given when you opened the account - it would have been on the account opening letter - if that is the attitude & language you use I hope for the staff sake that you do close your account - where to on the activation form did it say to put the card pan number?!
when you next ring - politely ask when the funds will be clear on the account - thats a total different question to whether your card is active or not0 -
On the activation slip the PAN number is on it automatically and there are 8 empty boxes to put the account number. In all honesty even if the OP had put the wrong number in the boxes, the card would still be able to be activated. The card activation is a red herring.0

exactly - the op does not seem to understand that the card activation & the funds on the account are 2 separate issues, but he seems to be one of these who don't bother to read any of the info that's sent0 -
Sue?! I'd suggest PayPal are the issue here rather than the bank.0

Like the customer services people said, you need to speak to your own branch and ask them. If you don't want to go to the branch, the good thing about NatWest is that you can phone your branch. You can find their number here: http://www.natwest.com/tools/personal/branch_locator/step1.asp0

I could phone the branch yes. but i already been there done that they say my account is open.
Anyways ive sold something on ebay and amazon and deposited it all to that bank account £97.99 all together so we'll see if that clear's or not. ill give it time.
Step accounts do have cheque books i have anyways lol. i have internet banking aswell but on my internet bank it says its there.
I'll update you as soon as i get more info. thanks alot for the helpfull posts.0 -

A simple bank account with no arranged overdraft facility
Prefer a bank account where you can’t borrow or become overdrawn? With no overdraft or chequebook, our Step Account could be the answer.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). yes but if i have £10.40 on my account i should be able to withdraw my £10 easy or spend it in a shop..0

I would be inclided to think paypal is the problem here. OP, you are posting and repeating what the issue is but have you actually DONE anything to get your money, i.e. ring Natwest, visit your branch or contact paypal??
My OH works for Natwest and they DO NOT have cheque books with step accounts so you can't have a step account, it's irrelevent to your question anyway to be honest, as is whether it's active or not.
EDIT: Also you DO NOT have to leave £1.00 in your bank as suggested by other posters:heart: Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

Danfx, the question was ring up and ask why you could not withdraw the money, do you know yet? The suspense is killing me. And step accounts do not get cheque books as it is basic account with a cashcard and a paying in book.0
