Disabled Parking Bays

Erm, Pat, no offence, but you really do seem to have missed the point of my post. Try reading it again, eh?
Crana9, No offence but I was trying to explain it from a disabled person's point of view.
And as regard's to Blue badge's it is not alright to use the disabled person's badge to run errand's the disabled person has to be in the car when it is being used.0 -
erm, I know you were, but your post sounded like I had implied that disabled people needed parking spaces less than parents with kids, when in fact I was saying the opposite. you seemed to go off in some kind of long rant about how you would rather not be disabled etc as if someone had accused you of thinking being disabled was great just so you got parking spaces?!
my post was actually defending the use of P&C spaces by disabled people if disabled bays were full and explaining why I thought disabled people had higher priority.
for the record I have a medical condition which impairs my mobility. I don't need "the disabled person's point of view" spelling out to me, thanks. They call me Mr Pig!0 -
Pat - you seem to have taken the post by crana 9 wrong which is why they (sorry - don't know if 'they' are male or female) are a bit 'miffed' at you quoting and seemingly arguing with them. The quote was speaking on behalf of disabled people saying they do need the spaces more than parents with kids for pretty much the same reasons as you said.
And as for this comment:I hasten to add that the average age of the occupants of these apartments has never been a day over 40!I'm a little angelBUT A WHOLE LOTTA DEVIL

I think the problem is that there are obviously far too many disabled parking bays in some places. I live in an apartment complex where no less than 30% of the parking bays are marked for disabled use. I hasten to add that the average age of the occupants of these apartments has never been a day over 40!
Immediately outside my particular block and the one opposite, there are a total of 10 bays of which no less than four are marked for disabled use.
Now then, if you lived here, what would you do if the only spaces free when you were looking for a space were marked for disabled use?
If you live in apartments couldn't you ask the Leaseholder to allocate a space per apartment. That way every apartment would be guaranteed at least one parking space. This has happened with apartment blocks here. Each space has a number (and the space can be chained) which relates to an apartment. There are then a few "free" spaces for visitors or second cars.
Parking is a huge cause of dispute amongst neighbours so I think it makes sense for planners to insist on developments allocating a specific space to each apartment. Then when you buy/rent the flat you know what parking you are getting.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

No one AFAIK has ever complained about an able bodied motorist using a marked disabled bay here because we do actually have a bit of space to play with, and I guess most residents are realists here. What we need is proper planning of space before developments receive planning permission, not afterthought. We really do get a pigs ear of so many planning issues foist upon us in this country.0 -
i wonder if they have to have so many as a law.
Yes every carpark used by the public has to have a certain percentage of Disabled bays.
After three tries I have finally got a Blue Badge (for MS) but when I went to my local Tescos yesterday 3 Parent and Child spaces were taken up by Home Delivary vans and 1 Disabled bay was taken up by the local Rotary club doing a charity collection. Most things in life are easy it's just doing them well that's difficult !!!!!!!!!!0 -
I think at Xmas its a free for all at Supermarkets. I saw a lady with a people carrier full of kids arguing with a man who pulled into a P&C space cutting her up. He had no kids in car or a disabled badge. He just told her to ___ Off.
Nice to know the Xmas spirit is alive and well.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Hi all,
Oooh parent and child spaces filled by disabled badge cars......yes, that grates on my nerves.
I can talk on this from both points of view. I have an illness which is debilitating, and also have little kids.
I can't have a blue badge (got turned down, and didn't question the decision....)
I find it easier to walk from a space further away alone, in pain or aching, than I do on a good day with 3 children, when safety is a huge issue. Incidentally, there are some spaces outside the door, split half half between disabled and p&c. Then there are a lot more disabled spaces in the next available section. these are invariably empty, with blue badge cars in my p&c space.(has my name on.....in my mind anyway ;D ;D) Now, if i was to park in one of the other disabled spaces, i don't need to tell you how much condemnation i would suffer for that!
But my biggest gripe on this subject is non badge holding oldies in p and c spaces. Aaaargh!
No offence intended to anyone unless you are parked in my space. >:(
