However, I do still have the problem with Outlook 97. When I try to access it it comes up with "Outlook.EXE - Ordinal Not Found. The ordinal 36 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll. I have a whole load of contacts in this and is not backed up."

    See here for one solution.

    Hopefully it won't affect Thunderibird.

What a little star you are irnbru - many thanks for all your help. Will try to take a look at the suggestion over the next couple of days and try to work something out.

It was downloading Thunderbird which messed up Outlook and OE, although thanks to your assistance I think we have that just about sorted.

Not totally sure I have the password problem sorted though.

Back again - to be honest I have not done anything with the link that you gave me irnbru, because it is not coming up with the same message as is coming up on my machine when I try to open Microsoft Outlook, so I am not really sure whether to go with what your link is saying to do.

I thought I had managed to import all the addresses from Outlook, but it turned out to be just the e-mail addresses, so I am still in the same situation of needing the information, or having to get rid of Outlook and perhaps reinstall it, but losing all the information and hoping that it does not conflict with the Thunderbird settings.

    So confusing!
