when I put my details into thunderbird a while back,I noticed they had STMP instead of SMTP in there.Could be its still the same?
  • Still having problems - the e-mail is still going into my plus.net account rather than defaulting to Thunderbird, so the assumption is that it is a problem with the incoming mail settings.

My "ADSL user name" as described by Plus.net is username@plusdsl.net and my e-mail address is *******@username.plus.com (if you get my drift!). I am pretty sure the outgoing mail has no problem.

So ... where the heck am I going wrong?

    Hold on.

Can you confirm your settings are now correct?

Do you still have to enter username and password?

I don't understand this bit. If you send an email to yourself at mail@username.plus.com. Then use thunderbird to get the email, does it go into your Inbox. Or is it going into some other folder?

In your Account Settings set User Name to username i.e. if your address is mail@foobar.plus.net then your username is foobar.
  • Great news irnbru - I have now got it to work - duh! Many, many thanks for your patience.

Not sure if it is going to keep coming up with the password thing, but so far
so good. I can now access my mail via Thunderbird without logging into the Plus.net account.

Now then, I am not bothered that I cannot access my Outlook Express, although I do have two or three weeks worth of e-mails in there which I now cannot get (new computer). However, I do still have the problem with Outlook 97. When I try to access it it comes up with "Outlook.EXE - Ordinal Not Found. The ordinal 36 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll. I have a whole load of contacts in this and is not backed up."

    Any ideas?
  • Have now managed to import my e-mails from Outlook Express - fairly simple really.

Applied the same logic to importing names/addresses/telephone numbers etc from Outlook but it did not work. Need to get at that info if possible.

Is it asking for both username and password? Or just password?
  • Just the password which now seems to work.

It should have a checkbox to remember the password.
  • Microsoft Office 97 disk - has on things like Outlook 97, Word, Excel, Access, etc. Has a calendar option which I also found useful.

Edit: Not even bothered about Outlook 97 really. It would be useful to have all my names/addresses/telephone numbers/e-mail info under one roof, and try to create from somewhere a useful calendar option.

At the moment I have/had Outlook 97 with calendar (none of which I can access) plus Outlook Express which is now defunct and presumably I can delete it. Plus Thunderbird.

The trouble with having all of these things that you tend not to open them up to check things - great if most of them could be combined.

PS - Think I have managed to get the password remembered.
