Help with Gas bill issue

Hi all,
Again I find myself hoping for some helpful advice from the experts on this forum.

We are with SWALEC for both our electricity and Gas. We moved into our new house last November. The previous owners were on those card and key devices for both their gas and electricty, and we asked for them to be removed so we could go back to normal billing. After eventually getting SWALEC to accept we were the new owners of the house, they arranged for us to have the gas and electicity put back to normal billing. This was the second mess. It took us weeks to finally have it done, with them not turning up and even telling us we hadnt made any appointments!

Anyway, the main reason for my post is to ask for advice on the following. Since they changed the gas and electricity back to normal billing last year we have received our electricity bills with no problems. However we have not received a gas bill - its now 8 months! Ive rung them a number of times and they keep telling me there was a fault in registering the meter when it was changed back - they sorting it out. I have just rung them again this morning and got pretty much the same response. They have promised to get a deputy manager on the case today and that I can expect a call back in the next 48 hours!

Im really concerned now, as when they finally resolve this issue they are going to send us an 8/9 month gas bill. Their only response to this was that they will just set up a payment plan for us. Im frustrated because we always pay our bills on time. We have now been put into this backlog bill situation, which we are expected to pay ontop of future bills. This is all through no fault of our own. Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks for take the time to read my post guys.

Richard

I hope that you have been putting money aside each month to pay for the gas so you now have enough to cover the expected bill?
However if this carries on longer than one year you will be quids in because if no bills have been sent they can only bill you for one years gas.
  • Yeah, we have a seperate account that we put money into each month for our bills. Im just annoyed that we are being put into this situation.

What do you mean they cannot charge us for more than a year?

Pleased that you have been sensible enough to put money aside.

There is an agreement within the energy industry that if you have never received a bill for your gas, then when you are eventually billed it can only be for the past 12 months worth of gas. In your case it is only 8-9 months but if it gets to say 15 months before you get a bill then you would effectively get 3 months free.
