Laptop Screen fault?

CrazyChemist wrote:Why would you want sample pics on a new laptop? It doesn't explain the spacebar being worn or whatever is wrong with the screen.
Dell install loads of stuff on their computers that you wouldn't want (including something called Photo Album) . I agree with you about the spacebar / screen though.0 -
Would they just replace the laptop or is it likely they'd just replace the screen? A friend of mine said that they'd most probably just replace the laptop as it's tricky trying to replace just a laptop screen, but what do you think? That, is an excellent question...0

Its a pain replacing a screen, and anyway Insist on the whole new thing
or sit back and get fobbed off, I mean C'mon its your money....:beer:0 -
Maybe you could download Dead Pixel Buddy :
http://www.laptopshowcase.co.uk/downloads.php?id=1
and run it to see if there are any more dead pixels on the screen - the more you can find the better if you are going to complain!0 -
Thanks for all your help!!
I've found this on Dell's Tech Support Online Knowledge Base... I'm trying the dead pixel thing at the moment but as yet haven't found any more
They say at the bottom that customers should only contact if they have 3 or more dead pixels. THey also say (below) that I could try rubbing the screen gently - is this true and would you recommend it?What is a stuck pixel?
During the manufacturing process, it is not uncommon for one or more pixels to be fixed in an unchanging state. The visible result is a fixed pixel that appears as an extremely tiny dark or bright discolored spot.

Rub the suspect pixel gently with a clean, soft cloth.
Some suspect pixels, whether white, black, or discolored, can be restored by lightly rubbing the panel.
Locate the suspect pixel on the LCD panel.
Using a clean, soft cloth, lightly tap the pixel.
Using the cloth, apply light pressure to the pixel and rub in a circular motion around the pixel.

What are the Dell Axim LCD quality standards?
In almost every case, these fixed pixels are hard to notice and do not detract from the display quality or usability. Dell's quality standards for LCD screens are framed to be in step with those of the industry to ensure the highest image quality practicable. A QVGA (240x320) or VGA (640x480) display with up to 2 fixed pixels is within industry standards and is therefore considered an acceptable display.
If you notice 3 or more fixed pixels on your display, contact Dell Technical Support.
Also I know the dead pixel is there but what is the hair like strand which leads off from it? It's probably about 3 cm long and leads from the pixel. Any ideas for what it is?That, is an excellent question...0 -

You can rub the screen to push the crystals around, but It doesnt
solve the problem its a temporary fix, I cant believe they told you that
what a load of w*****s :mad:0 -
I'm not going to try that then  what a bunch of muppets!
How do I stand with this supposed 'industry standard' about there being 2 dead pixels allowed? Surely the Sale of Goods act is enough to warrant a replacement no matter what the 'industry standard' is?That, is an excellent question...0 -
i used to work for dell and the dead pixel thing would always be within acceptance if it was only 2 or 3. replacements were never offered no matter how much people went on about it and if they got really worked up they were told to read the terms and conditions of the warranty. thing here is that no matter what Dell's terms and conditions say, they can't supercede laws such as the Sale of Goods Act.
If you're going to ring about the display/pixels, you should mention the keyboard as well - more likely to do something if there is 2 problems than just one.0 -
Thanks for that damo. It's nice to know what I can expect when I send this email off to tech support tomorrow. I will mention the Sale of Goods Act if they refuse replacement. I assume it can't be reasonable for a spacebar and surface of the laptop to be worn out after just 2 weeks of what I would describe as light/medium usage.
Could anyone tell me what the thin hairstroke line thing is that leads off to the left of this dead pixel? It looks like a scratch but it is clearly coming off that dead pixel. Could it be a bit of fine wiring or something? That, is an excellent question...0 -
Could be a hair in the screen but they should be assembled in a clean room.0
