Help ! I've been invited to an Indian restaurant

OP - stay away from Korma, it's like flavoured porridge. Go for a biriyani as it's just rice with meat / veg and an omlette and you can ask for it with a mild curry sauce.0

Bennifred - in an Indian it's all prepared for you so you can probably ask for it without chilli, unless there's some in the curry sauce they add to it.0

As a rule I tend to at least a gallon and a half of wife-beater ( Stella Artois ) before venturing forth to an Indian restaurant ( and actually the vast majority of Indian restaurants are owned by Pakistanis ).
Never ever order wine - it's usually cheap filth - and stick to the bottled lager.
And try the the tandoori - there's less chance of being passed off with cheap meat covered in hot slime to disguise it.
Never ever address the waiter as Gunga Din - you really don't want to know what they can do to your food in the kitchen.
And always have at least one toilet roll cooling the fridge for that Johnny Cash morning after feeling ( Burning Ring Of Fire ! )0 -
The first thing that sprung to my mind is the line from 'Goodness Gracious Me'.....a group of indian people are all sat around the restaurant table having an 'English'.......and one says to the waitor, "What's the blandest thing on the menu?"
I would suggest you try spiced poppadoms if they have them. The plain poppadom is a bit bland and boring.
Lamb rogan josh is a nice dish to try, it's not too hot. The pieces of lamb will be so tender, the meat falls apart. The sauce contains garlic, tomatoes and onions. If you are a fan of garlic, ask for extra garlic in it.;)
Indian ice cream is called kufti or something similar. You could also try lychees.
I hope you enjoy your first Indian meal.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
I really love Chicken Korma. I'm pretty sure theres no chilli in it. If you wanted to make sure you could telephone the restaurant a few days in advance and ask them what dishes don't contain chilli. Chicken Tikka is nice too and has a sweet taste. Again you would have to check the chilli content on that one

and whatever you order ask for it traditional style. Most curry houses just throw a load of crap together cos that's what we're used to eating. They don't eat it how we do so you have to ask for it their way..
Little tip given to me by the bloke in my local indian0 -
My tip is to start mild (korma or pasanda sauce) but ask for tandoried meat to spice it up a little but also to dip into all the other guests meals to try a little more adventurous sauces.Panda xx
