Best VOIP SERVICE

I current have Zen internet and route my phone calls through my router. I do not get the impression they are offering the best international voip service. This is very important to me as I have to phone the USA, the Caribbean and Brazil a lot. Has anyone any good advice on a very good VOIP service. I have SKYPE but many people I know especially companies do not use it.

  • Hi

Use Vonage v-plan2 - free calls to US and others, very, very reduced calls around EU, cheaper mobile across the board and excellent tech support.

Costs £7.99 per month + calls - I call internationally on a regular basis and rarely pay more than £30 per month inc.

If I recommend you we both get 3 months free service !!

You need to be able to maintain a minimum of 100k upload speed on broadband to maintain a good sound quality connection (same as landline).
(That means 2mb down/200k up broadband service).

    Hope that helps !
  • Hi

Has anyone else had the problem of nuissance Vonage sales calls?

I keep getting sales calls from what sounds like a callcentre in China at various times of the day and night. I was thinkiing of signing up with the service but after these pushy calls I have decided otherwise. I have called the number listed on their website to stop these calls but i am still receiving them. Sometimes as many as 3 times a day!
  • Vonage are a legitimate company! Well they must be as they will tell you this at least five times during any call you may have the misfortune to have with their representatives. They use heavy handed pressure sales techniques to get your custom. The heavily accented sales people; "Michael" in my case, do not make it clear that they are a VOIP company and allow you to believe that they have an association with your internet supplier, at least until you have signed up. If you cancel your account they will impose a "Temporary" £23.99 cancellation charge until the VOIP device is returned and the return will be at your cost; £8.00. They use the device of keeping you waiting for five minutes when you call to cancel, bombarding you the time with requests to keep the connection and subject you to more sales pitches.
Never again! When you hear the word "Vonage" ... hang up!
  • I’ve been using Vonage for over a year, as have colleagues at work. It suits us because of the way it works but I really wish there was a competitor that did what Vonage do (ie had a piece of hardware you can use on any internet connection and software to route calls).

Vonage’s call quality varies from day to day and there are regular problems. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. It’s better to suffer problems than have to call their technical help teams.

All in all if you want to use a VoIP service then Skype delivers the best call quality I’ve come across – I just wish it had the ability to transfer incoming calls to numerous other numbers for free.

I use VoIP Stunt, this is however from when they offered local area numbers, so I have kept with them as I have an excellent number. They currently just issue 056 numbers. I also use Sipgate.

There are sister brans in the Betamax VoIP group, such as VoIPBusterPro, JustVoIP, SIP Discount, VoIP Discount.

There's also Orb Talk, Sipgate and several others.

I've never been a Vonage fan.

I use a Linksys PAP2 ATA plugged into my router, so as not to need the PC on to make calls and I connect up my regular home phones DECT or corded.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
