Nasty T-bags abroad

Just reading the other threads about taking food abroad.

I always bring T-bags.

Just got back from Sharm & like everywhere else they have those nasty Liptons T-bags on offer.

Do any Brits even drink this stuff?

Its horrible, its not "normal" T-bags.

Does anywhere in the UK actually sell the stuff, because abroad they seem to think its British.

You should go somewhere civilised - most places I've been in Greece have Tetley's, some even have Yorkshire... The Liptons muck just about works if you brew the night before then remove the tea?bag the next morning and reheat in the microwave.

when in south africa i thought there was something not right about the tea bags, turned out it was redbush and i just didnt take to it atall, oddly enough since im back i drink nothing else. prce has come right down on the tetley redbush at asda as well so im loving it.

maybee its just my way of wishing i was still out there and holding onto the great time i had.

I also find my beans, chips and sausage daily serving tastes foul. Don't even get me started on what they do to my beloved Stella Artois and Carling. The foreign fools don't even serve it the way I like it - in a can from a Spar thin plastic bag.

    Hold the phone ...
I'm going for my QuidCo £million!

I was talking about the stuff they serve in the hotels.

I never use the "full English breakfast for £2 with PG tips & HP" cafes.

I'm not complaining about lack of English food. I don't go abroad to eat XXXX & chips.

What I'm remarking on is those Liptons T-bags which they always serve under the guise of English T-bags.

I'm just saying, does anyone know anywhere in the UK that sells or drinks that awful Liptons stuff?

It is British, Liptons tea was started in Glasgow in the 19th C by Sir Thomas Lipton, who is buried in the city.

I do prefer Tetley myself, but I think tea is a very personal taste

my policy is always when abroad eat and drink like a local. I cannot stand tea served in foreign hotels, so drink coffee. If self catering, I do bring my own tea. In Egypt last year I developed a taste for the Egyptian Wine as I couldn't bring myself to pay £35 for a bottle of Australian wine. I can't bear places which serve full Engish breakfast, or even Sunday Roast. I shall never forget going to Fuerteventura once to a resort that horrified me in it's Englishness - full English breakfast, Sunday lunch and Eastenders on satellite TV - euch - I'd never go back to that resort.
  • If I go to North America or Europe I'll always take tea bags with me (usually decaff as that's what I drink at home) because it's very difficult to get the real thing. I do find that Australia and NZ are absolutely fine for tea though - very similar to here.
