Orange cancellation problem

Hi,

Would really appreciate some help on this as otherwise I'm going to lose a lot of money!

Basically I signed up to a cashback deal a year ago through a third party local shop through Orange where I was paying £40/month per contract but worked out free after cashback! I bought 2 of these contracts and soon the shop shut down but I still had to finish the contract.. So with the 12 months coming closer I called Orange to cancel and requested a PAC code so I could transfer my number over to a new contract (which I hadn't ordered, I planned to find one before the current contracts ended).

I wasn't sure on the status of my cancellation so called up on Friday and they told me that there was no cancellation request, but there had been a PAC code request. I told them that I didn't need a PAC code as didn't want to transfer the number (I planned to get a new one with a new contract so I could do it in my own time)... Then when I told the guy I would like to put in a cancellation request, he questioned it, and said I just cancelled the original request. This completely confused me as he had originally said there was no cancellation request. He went onto explain that cancelling the PAC code request, cancelled the cancellation request, as it is all one thing - this had not been explained to me at any point!

Now I have to stay on for an extra month, which wouldn't have otherwsie happened, and will cost me £80!

Is there anything I can do? For my new contract, I'm happy to pay anything up to £10/month and don't need too many minutes or texts!

Thanks!

Orange record most customer contact on a computer. If you have made a cancellation request it will be recorded, although I personally would have backed it up with an email or fax.
If you are requesting a PAC number then the service provider automatically know that you are terminating with them , but want to transfer your existing number to a new network.Although you should make the cancellation clear.

You are clearly being had by orange to keep you on two lucrative contracts.
Write to Orange and explain your situation, cancel your direct debits and DO NOT use the phones.

I had no end of problems during two contact changes with orange, huge bills, duel billings for phones I no longer had/used. In the end I was apologised to and compensated accordingly.

If you only use the phone that little you need to transfer to PAYG.

Thanks I just called a little while ago to the retentions department again and strangely the person I spoke to said he would be ale to chang ethe cancellation date to the end of this month? The last person said it was simply not possible and even his manager said the same!

In the end I was offered a new 18 month contract for £10/month with 300 minutes, 100 texts, unlimited landline minutes and a LG Viewty on one and on the other a Motorola ROKR E8! So I got 2 of those contracts, and also a new contract which is on some kind of "rolling monthly" one where I pay £10 each month and get 225 minutes, 100 texts, and off-peak landline calls, but can cancel with a months notice!

Any opinions on the new contracts, are they a good value for money? I may not keept he phones, I'll see if I like then if not possibly sell.
