I love this thread - loads of tips! Off the top of my head the things I do -
use veg cooking water to make gravy, you get all the nutrients and makes it extra tasty. I also use it as a stock for soup
Squirt a wee bit of cheap bleach round the shower plughole every night before bed. It keeps the drains clear and stops me needing to spend £5 on drain de-clogger (I have long hair that seems to always clog up the drain, not so since I started with the bleach!)
I am a convert to cleaning with bicard, white vinegar and lemon juice. Oh and Stardrops!
I dry out the heelies of loafs, and stale bits of bread and grate them into breadcrumbs. I keep them in a kilner jar and use them for all sorts of cooking things
A bit of salt and a damp cloth will get rid of tea and coffee stains in cups - and a bit of eblow grease!
I bulk out mince with a couple of handfuls of porridge oats, and theis can increase the portions by 2 or 3. You dont taste them or notice them either
When the living room rug is getting a bit 'doogy smelling' after my dog has been lying on it, I mix up bicarb and chopped up rosemary (off a bush that grows in a communal bit in my street!!), sprinkle it over the rug and leave for a wee while - usually overnight, then hoover up in the morning and the rug is sweetsmeeling again. Its better and cheaper than using all that chemically foam stuff!0 -
Ever wondered why toast in a B&B tastes wonderful? They use a toast rack... honestly that's why it tastes soooo good.
If you want to use less butter, but make toast taste like it's got lots on...... after you toast the bread, stand 2 slices up against each other like a wee tent (or buy a toast rack from a car boot sale!) for a minute or 2. The toast will crisp as it cools rather than going soggy. Then when you butter it you use about a quarter of the amount you would use if you buttered it hot, but it tastes great!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

boots traditional skin creme £2.14 for 200ml. It is getting rather difficult to get hold of recently...
Would not put anything else on my face, no chance0 -
regarding cleaning...windows: best cleaned with newspaper, spray very little water and wipe off with newspaper crunched up into balls; if you really want to splash out then use little vinegar, but try without it first0

Good for car windows too.
Might use a bit of washing up liquid or meths though as cars are metal and vinegar is acidic.0 -
Save on windscreen deicer, wrap a large pop bottle almost full of hot water in a towel and put it in the car before you go to bed when it's cold. It keeps the temp just above freezing and you will have the only clear screen in your road.

Save money on toilet paper by using it to blow your nose before wiping your bottom. Remember to do it this way round.

And from around the same era if not older.....
Save petrol by pushing your car everywhere you go....passers by will invariably think you've broken down and offer to help.
And......
OLD telephone directories make ideal personal address books.
Simply cross out the names and address of people you don't know.
And.......
Save money on expensive personalised registration plates by simply changing your name by deed poll to match your current registration number. (Mr V234 GHT)

As a child I remember my granny tearing out out the sheets of paper from her telephone directories and Yellow Pages and using them as loo paper instead of buying toilet rolls. I bet the DynaRod people got plenty of business clearing the sewers around her neck of the woods.0
