2 cash ISAs in the same year?

Hi folks,

Im a bit of an ISA novice and looking for some advice.
I opened a cash isa with HSBC is in 07-08 and put in 3k
I've just opened the cash e-ISA with HSBC for 08-09 but it doesnt allow me to transfer in last years balance,
While this years e-isa has a decent rate, last years isa does not. Can I open an entirley new ISA with another provider and transfer last years balance into it? Is this allowed when i have just opened one with HSBC for this year?

Many thanks for any help!

Yes, transferring an old ISA isn't the same as opening a new one. It's perfectly acceptable to do what you're suggesting, just find a provider who will accept in transfers like that.
