I've just used gocompare, and while the quotes looked pretty good, the first problem was that the top three quotes for me, were straight from the same groups of companies - the Admiral group!: Diamond, elephant and Admiral itself.

The second problem I've experienced was that zero cost no fault claims are not allowed to be entered correctly - as Gocompare insist upon (in the dropdown) the entry of a minimum claim cost (again, regardless of no liability) of £50!

As both my no fault claims cost my past insurer sweet nothing because they were straightforward no fault claims (my vehicle each time wasn't even moving when repeatedly reversed into), settled without issue by the other side, yet my best quotes were still later loaded by around 200 pounds, when these were discussed. I told the insurer that I couldn't enter them on gocompare because of the £50 minimum for any claim, and the CS told me to contact Gocompare about this, as it's really a problem with their site's data entry process. The insurer didn't blame me at all about this issue with the entry of zero cost NFC's. In other words, Gocompare really needs to adjust their site to allow the input of zero cost (to one's own insurer) no fault claims - so that results are far more accurately computed than my experience found.

Yes - the first quote below £1000! and it was easy to fill in, extremely quick in e-mailing the quotes. It felt kind of safe and straight forward. :)
  • Fast response searching insurers, but still the cheapest was more than Direct Line price.

I just tried to get a quote from Go Compare for my second car, a cheap runabout.

I know all about the No Claims Bonus only being applicable to one car, so I was very careful to state on the application that I had Zero No Claims Bonus for the vehicle I wished to insure.

I was sent various quotes, the cheapest being £249 from Sheila's Wheels.

However, I didn't entirely trust them, and called to confirm that they were basing their quote on my having zero no claims bonus for this car.

They told me that they had 'pulled across' the fact that I had another car and they presumed I would be using the 8 years No Claims Bonus I had from my other car.

Why would they do this ? It stated on the quote that it was a 'multi car insurance'. It was only when I was about to click to accept, did I notice they had stated 8 years no claims bonus, which is what prompted me to call them directly.

This sort of thing is misrepresentation and fraud. Sheila's Wheels were hoping I would simply click to accept, and then face the consequences when they asked for my proof of no claims bonus.

    Disgusting.
  • Yet another site that hasn't a clue as it doesn't shown my address and gives no option to enter this, so loses business. Hopefully it will go bust and then the rubbish ads will stop as well.
  • I just bought contents insurance via Go Compare via TopCashback. Very straightforward to purchase. Saved £25.00 on my renewal quote from last year's cashback deal with Autonet with better cover. Should also get £26.00 cashback,
  • I've just used Gocompare for my car insurance. It beat Confused.com by £90, and beat Comparethemarket by £35, even though all the cheapest insurance policies were with Admiral. Tried to go direct with Admiral and it would have cost £125 more.
Gocompare also beat my renewal with Quotemehappy by £170.
I'll hopefully also get £28 cashback from Quidco. Happy days!
  • I have just renewed my buildings and contents insurance through Go-Compare, with Admiral coming out cheapest. In fact, cheaper than Admiral's quote on Compare the Market for like-for-like details. I have used CTM before, first time with GC. No cashback or cuddly toy but the quote is roughly the same as we paid last year.

Following Martins advice I calculated rebuilding costs and contents accurately prior to checking out the comparison sites above and Aviva and Direct Line. Thanks Martin!
