As Wig has said the sensors detect pedestrians on the crossing or cars queuing to pass the red light.
:rotfl: Who's this then: 'I drive a million miles a year in my truck and I've never driven through a red light or broken motoring laws in any way. This is because truck drivers are the kings of the road and all car drivers should be shot if they ever step out of line'0 -
Not long after I passed my test was driving at night and was on one of those light controlled roundabouts they tend to have at motorway junctions. I think I possibly saw the green light for traffic coming from the left (and they do tend to have them on the left and the right as they have lights in the island things) and the lights for me were red. Oops. Like other people say, luckily no accident, something to learn from and be more vigilant about in future.0

...am I missing something? Is the fine really anything to be that worried about?
You won't get points for just missing a red light, will you?0 -
unfortunatley yes, the fine i could handle.
3 points and a fine is the current punishment.0 -
dont worry after 15days, as above.. i checked that day on google earth and u r clear!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
You will definitely be fine. Nobody would have been watching the CCTV in so much detail. There was no accident so consider yourself lucky.
Traffic light cameras are grey boxes (not yellow).
I guess it depends on where you are, round here (Bristol) they are all yellow and look exactly the same as speed cameras.0 -
I love how you're terrified of being fined, but not at all worried about the lack of observation which led to you not looking at the red light in the first place.0

like i said a valuable lesson has been learnt

It seems the fine is no worry.the fine i could handle
But the points are a different matter. We aren't told why, but maybe this driver faces disqualification!0 -
nowhere near that, i haven't got any points in 8 years of driving, points bother me coz i'd like to keep it that way
its not that i dont care about the fine either, but i can handle it0
