A question for those who went through vol repossession

I feel cheeky even asking this but wanted to find out what others have done.

We are planning BR in a couple of months time and will go through a vol repossession as part of this. We have sorted an alternative house already (a family member is renting us their home) but this house needs a lot of work doing and we are doing the work for them as a favour in return for the favour of renting the house to us.

So, my question is, did you take things like light fittings etc when you left your homes?

We have some really nice bits that we have bought while doing our house up (hmmmm, wonder how we got into this mess!), nothing particularly expensive but they are still bits that I chose because I like them. We are now thinking of taking them and putting them into this house that we are renovating. All fittings would be replaced with basic stuff and any damage done would be made good, but I feel really miffed at the thought of leaving all these bits for the mortgage company to benefit from them.

What did you do?

Sorry to ask such a trite question on this board but I don't know anyone IRL who has gone through repossession to ask and I don't want to do anything illegal.

Thanks :)

Strip it, the new owners will most likely gut it anyway to make it there own so take anything you can use ;)

We have renovated our home & had to leave it. I aim to take anything that I can....make sure that it is safe & legal to do so...ie put basic light fittings in place etc.

If the property is to be repo then take what you can.....failing all else you can sell the fitments on Ebay etc

Ultimately it will make no difference to the repo but could give you a little money back.

That might sound wrong but my parents bought a house where the previous owners did just that, and there was nothing they could do as they didnt agree before that they would be left, i had to go fit new fittings the day they moved in:rolleyes:

In fact they left two fittings with bare wires, and removed the fuse in the fuse box so it was classed as safe:confused:

Ouch!!! I think under the `HIPS` legislation now everything has to be legal!! esp regards the electrics!! ...I am even taking the wall mounting for the 42" plasma!!!! (kidding!!)

By all means MrsST take what you can....what have you to lose???

Its streching it a bit, and i must admit as i dont do electrics anymore since i fell ill so im not up on it anymore but in my day (lol) if you removed the fuse for the fitting, and blank the space in the fuse box with tape, and left a label saying not to re-fit it atached to the box that is classed as safe as reasonable precations had been taken

as for HIPS thats whoever repos the propertys problem as the op is not actually selling it (which is what HIPS is for really) so dont have to worry about all that rubish

I may be wrong but thats the way i see it

    Thanks everyone.

That's the light fittings sorted then........I wonder how easy it is to lift laminate flooring ;)

We've done so much here and it is gutting to think that we have to leave it all behind in this way. As we are renovating this new place for a family member, I am quite happy for the stuff we take and fit to be left there when they sell it. At least someone in our family will benefit from them.

If its click and fit, easy, if its glued it might be a bit harder:rotfl:

    Agree Bat.

In my case I know really that my house will be rep`d in the end so why would I want to waste £399 for Hips, £3k estate agents & £1k sols fees ....& then BI £250 costs as well????...thats nearly £5k to sell a house in neg equity!!!!!

In vol repo there`s no point in leaving anything so I would agree that OP should take what they can.

I shall be stripping the lot but obviously leaving it safe. Anything I don't need in the rented place shall either be sold on a boot sale or ebay.

    Hiya

We took flags from the garden, sold the integrated fridge/freezer and dishwasher, sold the shed, took the chrome shower thing and exchanged it for the cheap plastic one that is in this house....(cough).

If I could've used it, I would've taken up the laminate floor too...my sister told me to remove the kitchen and sell it, but my heart wasn't in it..

I would def. take what you need and sell what you don't...you need to, to make a new home for your family, so don't be feeling guilty about it.

    xx
