Things to do/see in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge

We're a family of 5 (twin six-year-old boys and a six month old) and are staying at the Haven Wild Duck site near Great Yarmouth for a fortnight starting next week. We have a car so are willing to travel around Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge. We need to entertain the kids and ourselves and wondered if anyone can advise us on things to see and do in this area?

Hi close to great yarmouth you have got pettitts and pleasurewood hills theme park.near Norwich you have bewilderwood which is a forestry adventure thing, there is also the dinosaur adventure park which is meant to be quite good!there are loads of zoos in all the areas you mentioned. if you actually went into cambridge you should try punting can be quite funny!plenty of farm parks etcl depends really what you all into? I'm sure you could probably full your time easily without leaving the gt yarmouth Norwich area.

Holkham beach in Norfolk is well worth the drive out - really beautiful and the children will enjoy playing in the pine forest and the sand dunes - take a picnic as there is nothing when you are there.

My family enjoy a mooch around Sheringham also - and crabbing at Blakeney (and lunch at the White Horse afterwards).

Have a great time - let us know how you get on as I'd be interested to see what your park is like.:D

Joyland on the front at Great Yarmouth and some of the end of Pier stuff is aimed at under 10s. You can get a horse and cart ride up (it isn't cheap!) and down the front or the road train.
A second vote for the dinosaur adventure park :)

Theres a tourist information center on the front where you can pick up brochures, leaflets etc :) Have a great time.

I stayed at Wild Duck a couple of years ago. We visited Pleasurewood Hills, had a look around Norwich one day. We spent a lot of time on site. Cambridge is a bit of a long drive but it is do-able. Punting fun but VERY expensive. Would not recommend if you have a baby in tow anyway. Beautiful city to walk around though. I had mixed views about Wild Duck. It was our first caravan holiday and whilst the site is lovely and wooded, the location of our caravan wasn't great. Entertainment is good though and plenty to do. Have a great time.

As a resident of Cambridge for 20+ years, just some quick advice.

If travelling by car, use one of the park & ride facilities ringing the city. The road lay out in the centre is not car friendly & car parking is expensive/well policed.

As mentioned the main touristy activities revolve around the river & colleges. We have 4 & 7 year old's & the colleges/old buildings do nothing for them, punting is fun though (but not in the rain!).

When we do stroll into town we usually find ourselves on one of the several green spaces - Parkers Piece, Midsommer Common, Newnham park etc, just to let the kids let off steam. There's lots of picturesque places to have a take out or picnic.

Hi, i live near to Yarmouth and have kids.
Pleasurewood Hills is a good day out-tips for this- you can use Tesco clubcard deals for entry-or there was some 2for1 deals on the web last year-worth searching before you go.
Dinosaur Park is a great day- but as with Pleasurewood Hills-take your own picnic and drinks-as choice is not great and are expensive inside.
If you are going to the beach for the day-definately go to Gorleston Beach-which is nearer to where you are staying than Yarmouth-and is a lovely beach and child friendly-no stones and gentle sloping beach into the sea.
Yarmouth seafront is typical seaside resort-cheap and chearful-full of amusement arcades....but the sealife centre is worth a trip-again check on the web for any offers before going.
If you are going to travel around-North Norfolk coast is lovely-Cromer and Wells on Sea- you can also go on a sealion watching boat trip.
Enjoy your trip!!!!

Deffinately go to pettits, the kids will have a great time. Take a picnic because theres plenty of benches, grassed areas. We also went to Pleasurewood Hills, another good day out. Id look out for buy 1 get 1 free vouchers because they will be around somewhere.

When we went Yarmouth had fireworks I think Fri night, dont know wether they will have them this year but that was a good display. The rest of our time we just spent in Yarmouth itself.
