    £6930 inc. VAT for that 62mph model. I'm sure in the long run you will save money over a petrol scooter.
    The other sticking point I see with it is recharging the battery, you have to run a cable to the scooter, you cannot remove the battery and take it into your office to charge it for example. This really limits you to half of the 68 miles (at 25mph which is slow). Does have regenerative braking which helps extend the range in the right conditions.

    Very true. If they could double the range and keep the performance it would be fantastic. Apparently they're planning a fuel cell version with a 62 mph top speed and a 155 mile range.

    All you need then is a handy supply of hydrogen. :rolleyes:

    The Vectrix - Nice price is inclusive of VAT - £5350 possibly £5300. "While stocks last" and they said they had "A couple" in stock which could mean 2 or maybe upto 10.

    I think it's very nice, and I reckon it will take off, with the Verde and others giving competition prices could start to come down. Cheap ones from China are already just £1K.

    It's OK but a 45 mile range at 25mph is not great, not even as good as the Vectix scooter. It's also only got a top speed of 50mph as well.

    I read this review on the vectrix a few months ago http://londonbikers.com/articles/6325/petrol-not-included-a-vectrix-electric-scooter

    Seems an alright bike, pity about the price tag though!

    Very true, and I'd hate to think what the price of the enertia will be over here, if it ever makes it over here. It just looks so much nicer than the competition.

    There was an interesting post on hackaday about a guy who'd made his own electric bike (or modded a petrol one at least). I'll go find it...

    Cheap, but nowhere near as good rangewise as the current prebuilts.

    A few posts on t'internet suggest that a replacement battery for the Vectrix will be $3000 or £1500 if they don't decide to do a Rip off Britain price.

    Also people are suggesting the battery life could be expected to be closer to 800 cycles.

    And that they intend to move production to Poland sometime soon.

    While most 'traditional' cyclists think electric bikes are a waste of time and for the elderly or infirm, there are other reasons for buying one! Many people use them to commute where they don't have shower facilities at work or want the electric option to help cut the journey time. One of the biggest reasons why electric bikes have seen a huge increase in sales is the increase in the costs of fuel. Many are now looking to ditch the car and get on the bike and are perhaps afraid to jump straight to a normal cycle. Even if the electric bike is a transitional purchase at least that is another car off the road. There are a couple of good sites in the UK for electric bike info:

    You need to know how much a new battery will cost before you buy.
    Quote from the 50cycles website;
