  • Monarch are a budget airline....... be grateful if you get a seat.....

No honestly the are budget but they are OK. You are unlikely to get monitors in the headrests unless you go premium cabin. The conditions can be cramped in cattle class depending on your height, but just remember it's only 9 hours which is nothing compared to the time spent at your destination. Don't worry about the fly think of the holiday.

Monarch are the worst airline I have ever flown with. They are much worse than either Easyjet or Ryanair, and cannot hold a candle to BmiBaby or others in the same market as they are.

I am quite tall and found the legroom to be the worst I have ever experienced. I was having real difficulty and had to keep getting up to walk around. The useless cabin stewards were not only unhelpful, they were rude and obnoxious. They had no interest when I attempted to complain in writing and actually turned quite nasty when I insisted on a complaint form. Their rudeness was matched only by their lack of basic competence.

I did complain to the airline but they were no help at all, even though one of the stewards had actually breached safety regulations at one stage. Monarch are a cheapskate cowboy airline and when I am looking for flights now I don't even bother looking at their website.

Avoid them at all costs is my considered advice.

Am afraid that I agree with the above. I would not fly with Monarch again if you paid me. The reaction of the crew to get me a glass of water on an eleven hour flight was scary!

I flew with them a few years ago now, hopefully they have improved?! :o x
    Gone ... or have I?

I've flown with Monarch before, (short haul), and they were fine. I'm not as tall as your son, (I'm only 5'11), but had no difficulties. I recently booked with them again and noticed that you can book extra legroom seats online, obviously it will cost a few pounds. Take a look.

I flew to India with them and paid £300 for premium seats.

I'm 6ft 2" and took a peek at the normal seats. Safe to say at £12.50 an hour it was money well spent.

They are notoriously bad for leg room. If I was you I'd look in to getting your son upgraded. I don't think he'll physically be able to get in the seats. :rotfl:

Monarch are one of the oldest, and most respected airlines in the UK industry. I can only suspect the people here have had bad experiences. Short haul they are the same as anybody else flying short haul, and in terms of product they offer quite a good one. In terms of support when things go wrong, well I'd rather be with Monarch than any of the other airlines people have compared them to.

Long haul they aren't great, in terms of leg room, entertainment etc. But the tour operators are as much to blame for that. Monarch are an independent charter airline, they tailor the aircraft to what the tour operators ask for.

I have only ever flown short haul with Monarch and have never had a problem. They have been most helpful.

Sadly the leg room is horrible. I end up with grooves below my knees where I'm shoved against the table!
