Dont worry re your payment, when paying from your flex account, although it doesnt appear on your credit card account online for 2 working days, when it does show the date will be the date it was debited from the flex account.

I have check my last 4 payments to confirm this, it also works in the same way if you are paying someone elses Nationwide card payment too.

Are you sure they dont mean "it will take 5 days to appear on your statement" rather than 5 days to arrive? when Ive made payments via debit card over the phone with other firms the payment take a few days to appear on the statement, but is always backdated to the day I actually phoned them up.

And as for late payment markers, there arnt any, they are missed payment markers. Ive had a couple of late payments in the past that were paid within 2/3 days of the due date. I got the fee charged, but nothing on the credit file.

To be honest I wouldn't phone with any complaints about the amount of time it takes the payment to go through - this is standard practice and won't get you anywhere. I'd just phone up and apologise heartily and ask if, in light of your previous good behaviour, they would waive the fee and particularly not put anything on your credit record. I have done this before and they have agreed - although I am a pretty good customer and also have a mortgage etc with them...
