Budgeting. I always lived within my means but that was it, never thought about HOW I spent my money before, now I do & I plan purchases & have money left over for savings, before I spent everything I had even if I didn't actually go into debt.

  • Freyaluck. yours is a nice story. I know what you mean in a way. Pre MSE I felt very stuck in a rut, I didnt have any time to myself and I felt like all I did when I was at home was tidy up.
Now I still never seem to get much time to myself but Im enjoying what I am doing much more, and I love reading this forum and seeing what others are up to.

Lillibets post made me think too. We always managed to live on what we earned and have been lucky enough never to have a loan or an overdraft or an outstanding balance on the credit card, just the mortgage BUT we had no savings either.
Now I realize we didnt have as much money as I thought, I think before I spend more, 'cos once you've spent it, its gone! Savings are still none existent, but we are overpaying on the mortgage every month and Im working on the savings.
I dont want to think about life before MSE and this forum.
  • Hey

I couldnt go without budgeting and meal planning! Ive saved so much money these past few months...all thanks to this site. Only have 6 more payments on credit card, then we owe nothing .....zilch  Because of all the cutting back, meal planning, budgeting etc...it means we will be able to buy a newer car in April/May 2006 and will also have around £1000 saved towards our new conservatory. It will mean that we will bung another £3500 on the credit card (on a 0% of course..lol) but this will be paid up by the end of next year maybe earlier :D and its going on what we need/want and not being wasted on take aways and surplus M&S food shopping. 12 months ago, I would have just taken a loan and bought it anyway
