I'd 100% try this first - just as a start before looking at anything else:

    Start > Run > CMD

    Type in

    SFC /SCANNOW

    Then restart.

Its worth a go! Just tried the scannow but it reports that I mustr be an administrator running a console session...

Why don't they put it in plain English!!!

OK, then - you need to log in as an administrator on your machine - if it's a work laptop contact your IT dept. If not go:
Start > settings > control panel > user accounts > manage accounts

Set yourself as an admin, and restart then try again.

    Alterantively go to:
    C:\Windows\System32

Find CMD.exe and right click, and select "run as administrator"

Will give it a try. Says that it may take some time!

Thanks again. Will let you know what happens.

Sadly no joy. It did say there were some issues which it could not fix.

If it's found unfixable errors you'll need a format - those are windows "special" files, the important ones.

    Sorry I couldn't help more!

Thanks for trying. If I do reinstall everything, is there a way that I can guarantee getting all my documents back - emails (Windows Mail) in particular?
