Internet Explorer

Wonder if someone can help? Neither Internet Explorer nor Firefox seem able to 'connect' - not even a time out screen.

The internet connection is fine (email works ok as does another laptop).

Only noticeable change has been that Firefox has just updated itself - although not sure what effect this would have on Internet Explorer.

Any ideas?

Running Vista Business by the way.

Thanks.

Press the Start Key (on your keyboard) and "R" at the same time.
    Type in CMD

    A Dos shell will open.

type in as below (spaces included)

    ping - a https://www.google.com

    Tell me the response.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately nothing seems to happen. A dos screen pops up but disappears so quickly that it is impossible to see anything

You got any firewall/antivirus programs running?
If so, (windows firewall included) turn them off and try again.

So you've disabled your firewall and antivirus, and retried pinging? And nothing?

Ping doesn't time out this time but still no joy with IE or Firefox.

Just been on the blower to Dell as well - they reckon I should reinstall everything so just backing up now to an external harddrive.

    Such a pain.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa,
If your pings are coming back now, we're getting some where!

It's your call, if you want to format or not, but sounds to me like it's fixable without to be honest...
