computer techie help please.

Hi, hopefully 1 of you might be able to help.

I started to format my pc and put a fresh install of xp pro on my pc,
however everything was going fine until i got to the part where you set up the settings i.e keyboard language, time ect with approx 20 mins left to full install, but when i tried to use my keyboard or mouse , the computer was not picking them up, therefore i am now stuck in between the install and cannot go any further, I have tried all ports and none are picking them up.

anybody any ideas?
could this be a harddrive problem or motherboard?

any comments or advice much appreciated.

    1) Plug in the keyboard and mouse.
2)Restart the computer. (Press and hold the start button on the front for about 20/30 secs, then release.) Then press the button again.
    3) The computer will restart and the install should pickup where it left off.
    4) If still no keyboard and mouse are detected try a USB keyboard & mouse, or a PS2 connection if you already have USB.
    5) Restart the computer as above.

What keyboard / mouse connections do you have? USB or PS2.

    1) If PS2, it might be worth swapping the keyboard / mouse connections at the back of the PC, they could be identified incorrectly. DELL PCs had a habit of having them wrongly identified.

    Just a thought!

you would have to restart the computer to access the bios unfortunately.

have you tried re-pairing the keyboard/mouse to the receiver if they are wireless?
