Don't buy a ring that you want your wife to wear forever from a shop that is only one up from Argos
Might have been a tongue in cheek comment but it's a bit harsh for those people who do have an engagement ring or wedding ring from either Argos or H Samuel, the idea of this site is MSE after all and if those shops stock a ring that they want at a price they can afford then why shouldn't they buy it?
Obviously in this case the person in question can get more for their money elsewhere but on the lower priced rings, if that's what you can afford then why not get it from these stores?0 -
My ring is almost identical to that (in fact the diamond is bigger marginally) and cost about £350 in Half Price Jewllers0

This may be bit of a long post so I apologise in advance. My husband originally bought an engagement ring for me which looked exactly the same as the one you want to get, it was also from H samuel. I had it for about a month and then I started having problems with it. First off one of the claws holding the diamond came loose and kept catching clothing and scratching me, luckily he had also got the insurance that paid for the repair.
This happened twice and was repaired twice on the insurance. About a year after we got engaged we began looking at wedding rings. When I started trying plain bands next to it it was obvious that the setting was wonky and didn't sit right next to the band on my finger. I had also noticed that where they had made the ring bigger you could see the join and in fact you could feel the difference too. I complained once again and insisted that they re-order me a new one in my correct size which they did. When this arrived and I checked it over we found that this one too was wonky, after a lot of hassle with head office and store manager we finally managed to get a full refund and I got to choose another ring.
I'm not suggesting that you don't buy this ring just make sure that its right before you leave the shop, ask to see it next to a wedding band. I loved this ring as my hubby chose it for me without me being there and he also showed it to my dad to ask if he could marry me, unfortunately my dad passed away just after so in the short time I had it it had sentimental value to me as dad never got to see my new one.0 -

Just wondered if the claw that hold the diamond in place would break and the diamond drops out, does the policy cover a new replacement diamond AND repair, or just repair?GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -

It was tongue in cheek...sorry.
However, I still stand by my comment that for any ring, you'd be much better off going to a proper jeweller. And you'll probably pay less for something of better quality...and that is MSE0 -

Most rings in any jewellers, independent or chain, are mass produced.
Have a look online at Cookson gold to see the shanks you can buy complete. These are machine produced stampings and usually the standard is very good. The head of the ring (the bit that holds the stone) can be produced separately and soldered on, hence you may get a wonky head, or it can be cast all in one.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

£700 for a 0.2ct princess I Colour P1 (or I1 depending on the lab - which means Piqued, or Included) diamond...
you are being taken to the cleaners!
you can buy a 0.3ct princess (same cut as the 'forever' diamond) I colour and near a flawless VVS2 (very very slightly included)( diamond for under £200
add in the whitegold setting for another £200 - and you can have a larger nearly flawless stone, for £400
I is very low in colour, and P1/I1 is a point where the inclusions in the diamond can be visible to the naked eye, and present a risk, if the inclusions are near the edge of the stone, of the stone cracking if it is knocked!!!
by comparison... looking at Bluenile.co.uk (a good option for seeing lots of diamonds) you could have a 0.47ct G VS2 in a 18k whitegold setting for the same price... a 0.47ct stone being a full 2mm larger in size than a typical 0.2ct stone!
heres a link: here
please... if you want to get a 0.2ct stone.... dont pay twice the price for something thats of such poor quality! go to a good jeweller and get an excellent ring, and pay a fair price.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0 -
It's also worth spending a bit more for platinum as opposed to white gold. White gold will have a yellowish tint underneath the rhodium plating that wears off. If having it made you could just have a platinum head. Harder wearing too so less likely to lose stone if you knock it.
I've always just specified my rings under household insurance as it's been the cheapest way (you can also add your mobile phones under this cover so you don't need extra insurance for phones). They have paid out when I lost a diamond a couple of years ago from my engagement ring.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
