HSamuel - Forever Diamond

Options
Hi all,

After a few months of searching, I have decided to purchase the
engagement ring below and l am looking to find the best deal:

In store, I was offered 10% discount on the advertised price (£699).

On the web site, HSamuel offer £10 off next online purchase. I could also receive 12.5% back from Quidco:
http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/5708710/?cm_re=Forever%20page-_-Main%20image-_-View%20this%20Forever%20Diamonds%20ring

I would also consider purchasing 1 year Hsamuel insurance (extra £70). Has anyone taken out this policy before? Is it worth it or would standard contents insurance cover this?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Contents insurance usually has an limit for single items that will be covered when taken out of the house. Over this you have to declare the item and possibly prove its value by sending a valuation. Contact your insurance company and ask about this.
It will probably cost MUCH less than H Samuels policy. For example I recently added a £4000 item to our contents insurance, I had to pay for a valuation but the extra premium was only 79 pence per year! I also received an amended policy which specified the item and cover.

    Hope this helps,

Have a look on this site for more information on what you are buying.

OH used to be a goldsmith and hand make rings and he didn't like using white gold as it needs rhodium plating to keep it looking good. Platinum is better but it does cost extra.

This chap trained with my OH and OH rates him very highly

basill I'm guessing your £4000 item was something like a tv that stayed in the house? To cover something in and out of the house (which you'll need to with a ring) costs a lot more. We're renewing our contents insurance at the moment and now have to add my engagement ring, at £2500 it is going to add approximately another £5-£8 a month to the premium. It is annoying because this extra I think covers everything else you take out of the home up to £2500 (ipods, games consoles, cameras etc etc), but I don't want to insure all that, have got by for years without it, I just want to insure the ring!

Please, take the picture of what you want & go to a proper jeweller. You will get a better quality ring, better service & probably a cheaper price.

If you are near London, go to Hatton Garden, anywhere near Birmingham go to the jewellery quarter.

Don't buy a ring that you want your wife to wear forever from a shop that is only one up from Argos ;)

    morg....£4K for a Tv?????

You want to spend nearly £700 on a ring in HSamual?? Are you serious??

If you are willing to spend that much money on an engagement ring, go to an independent jewellery maker, who will make you something unique for that price!!

Don't spend £700 on a piece of mass produced junk!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It is a watch and I asked for cover outdoors. After reading your post I thought I`d check and, surprise, the company had placed it in the wrong category. My insurance has gone up about £5/month but at least I am now properly covered.
    Thanks for the heads up!

borosupporter82, ignore me my 79 pence was a mistake!

    glad to have helped basill!

and sooz... i agree £4000 is a bit ridiculous for a tv but not to some people (they probably don't hang out on MSE though!)... there's a huge flatscreen tv on the wall in JL oxford street that costs £50,000!!! dread to think of the premium to add that to your polixy...
  • As an ex-h.samuel employee i am truely outraged!!! lol. The insurance is pretty good (in my opinion), it covers repair as well. So if the ring gets caught on something & breaks it will be repaired on the insurance, without it is usually very costly. On other items such as watches it is useful as if it "accidently" gets broken just before the end of the insurance policy's term (when your bored of the item) you can have the value to spend on something else in the shop. I guess im biased....but ive never seen anyone have any problems with these policies or the Forever Diamonds. I would be very happy with that ring. You can always ask them to order another ring in your size and then you can inspect both diamonds to make sure you get the best one.
