The 'official' policy is for foreign bodies found in food (Some discretion on the part of store staff as to whether the customer is telling porkies) should be a £10 giftcard issued by the store & a letter from head office apologising. The supplier also has to send a letter to the store & HO outlining why the issue happened and what they are doing to prevent such issues in the future.

Obviously can't comment for all stores, but that's the official line from HO.
The customer can also choose to escalate the issue further (I believe this is normally used in cases where the foreign body could represent a danger as opposed to an inconvienience), but I can't commment on the precise procedure for this, as it's handled by HO.

    Cheers

Hi All, Thanks for the replies, I took it back to Tesco, saw the manager, he replaced the pasta bowl for another aswell as refunding the £1.99 and then gave me a £5 gift card and was most apologetic. I have to admit a simple refund and apology would have been fine with the assurance of it being investigated. As it stands I have a 6-8 week wait whilst they investigate it all and then I will hear back from them

I found a live winged insect in a bag of Tesco salad leaves not long ago. I was so intrigued that I wrapped it in sellotape and took it into the store.

The bug was still alive when it was unwrapped by a surprised customer service assistant.

They sent it away for analysis and advised me of the result by post within a couple of weeks. I can't remember the name of the insect now, but I found it rather interesting. Growers use the minimum of pesticides nowadays, so the odd flying thing gets past the sprayers.

Tesco sent me a £10 voucher, which I thought was more than adequate.

You've brought it to Tesco's attention, and (hopefully) they'll take steps to ensure the risk of it happening again is minimised.

They'll probably send you a voucher for an amount in excess of the salad bowl, which will be nice because your daughter is perfectly fine and you'll have made a few pounds profit.

I ate at Frankie & Benny's a week ago, and in the middle of my burger with blue cheese sauce was a piece of metal foil! Good thing I opened it up to take the gherkin out!!

Can you imagine if you'd bitten into it? It makes my fillings shudder just to think of it!

This reminds me of a very funny anniversary dinner we once had at TGI Fridays (sorry if I've told this story before ... it's my dining out story!!). We were sat waiting for our starters, and I was slurping one of those lovely Bailey's and Oreo cookies cocktails. I'd got to the bottom of the bowl, and didn't want to continue with the straw in case it make that raspberry sound (..!..), so like the glutten I am, I picked it up and in one big gulp swallowed the remainder down. Straight away I knew something was wrong, and was able to almost vomit (urghhh .... sorry) the contents back up into my hands (it had already partly gone down), and there in my hand was a huge screw, bolt and washer (nicely covered in cocktail!!!). Anyway, my husband called over the waiter, who was about 15 .... who looked at it, turned up his nose, and walked away to talk to someone else over by the bar. He then sauntered back and said, "oh, they wandered where that had gone too". I'll get some gloves to get it back from you (still held in my dripping hands!!). OH also spluttering at this, said "you'd better get the manager ... how do we know what else ceebeeby has swallowed already". Cue the manager, who goes over to the bar - starts shouting at staff (yes, in the middle of the restaurant), then comes over to us. Have to say couldn't have been more apologetic - said that it came off of one of the blenders and that there were no other parts missing. At this stage our starters arrived, and the waiter attempted to put them down on the vomit covered table .... and guess what the starter was wrong (I'm veggie and it was chicken!!).

After a few more grovelling apologies, we went on to have a fab meal with the manager personally serving us.

If I recall right, we got free drinks and desserts .... and thankfully no trips to casualty!!!!

Glad you got your plastic sorted!

We were at friends a one night and they served a Sainsbury's salad. We found a dead mouse in it just as I was eating the leaves. Friends complained and we both recieved a large 3 figured sum. We were off abroad the next day, so the meal spoilt a day of our hols as we did not want to eat the nice food of Barbados!
