But hey, what an adventure, and how wonderful to have something that was clearly meant to be play out so well!
I hope you find your perfect job soon sweetie xx
noooo - I didn't think that anyone pushed me too hard.........
I really really really appreciated everyone's help - and yours especially.
I wouldn't even have gone out of the door without it.

Sorry to hear that the job is probably not for you, but if you had never gone for the interview you would never have known.
Please don't say that being a PA is all you are good for - a PA has allsorts of skills that can be used in all sorts of jobs. I have always been a PA and to be honest felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders when I was made redundant last year, now instead of liooking backwards, I am looking forwards and am in the process of setting up my own business as a wedding planner. My PA skills and organisational skills are exceptionally handy for my new role - now if I had stayed put then I would always have been wondering what if.....
Maybe travelling to London is a bit far (and they are a wierd lot down there, they never look you in the eye), so how about looking for something closer to home?
Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and am glad you enjoyed your all expenses paid trip to London courtesy of the jobcentre:j0 -

I think PAs have a lot of possibilities to go into other areas - office management, event management/setup, executive assistant (very lucrative!). Even if London/the travel isn't for you, you have been given something to think about clearly.
What made you think that there won't be a second interview? Or was it that there might be and you wouldn't take it?0 -

It's true that PA's can -and often do -go far; I know that I DID have a real flair for event/occasion planning but that was then and this is now and I have gone downhill in the last year.
I just got a feeling that there will be no follow up and I am a bit glad because even though my ties here are so minimal, I know that to think of moving would have presented a huge dilemma for me and think what everyone here would have had to put up with then!Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.

Has anyone suggested the What Colour is Your Parachute book to you? I'm sure you could get it from the library.
I'm an ex-Londoner, and there is no way I could go back now. I travelled up on Friday evening not long ago and wondered how I had EVER done that commute! :rotfl: But I would still regard a trip to London as an adventure - heck, I see a trip to Swindon as an adventure! So don't beat yourself up for thinking of it as a big deal. It IS a big deal!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Aww - thank you Horace. I wasn't meaning to knock PA's in any way shape or form. It's just a me thing....
(Although I was a PA to a Director [and each of the three I had were fabulous], I was Administrator for a team of 40 and each one of them thought I was their PA too; I felt as though it stopped just short of nose-wiping.)
You are right in that the organisational skills needed are very valuable and transferable to a role or business such as yours - how is it going?
As for the JC help, that too was instrumental in my going; had I had that outlay, I would not have overcome my many second thoughts I think. It wasn't quite all-expenses paid though - I paid £5.30 for my all-day tube ticket and then spent £9.99 on a book from WH Smith called "Things I knew at School" or something like that - but spent the journey back trying and failing to do Sudoku (used to be good at that too).

I bet you're the exception though tinkerbell; you seem lovely....
The way that avoiding eye contact seemed the norm freaked me out a little. I was in WH Smith just before my return journey and told a chap in front of me that his backpack was totally unzipped. I admit I was a little wary of doing so but couldn't help it (oh, he was in a wheelchair by the way) but it turned out he was from Hull - so he was friendly and we chatted for a while until train boarded.
I think it's just so busy that everyone is in their own world and focussed on getting to their destination. I guess I am used to being known in the Post Office and saying morning to everyone (from the days when I rode my horse through the village - which actually didn't make me any friends as it happens....) and am by nature a friendly person; London was a bit of a culture shock. I do love my countryside. Maybe I'm a split personality - can't spell shiz/shipso whatever..

Thank you Sue - I have heard of that book and may look it up.
My life historically has been one of survival, dogged (more than some at very significant times - i..e. career decisions at school) by financial necessity. It has resulted in - well, this. I am not anything - and am running out of time to be Something (even to myself).
I can't remember what it's called but I had a personality type/appropriate career analysis* done prior to my redundancy; suitable careers for me were - HR (!!!!!!), PR (better), Counselling and Health Care.
(I've just been to dig out the document and it's weird to read it again as I had forgotten and strangely enough some of my possible "directions" (me? direction?)are on that list. Spooky.Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.
