Five door every time. Can't imagine why anyone would want less.

We have a five-door seven- seater Seat Alhambra (same as a VW Sharan) and there are only two of us. We like a car with LOADS of space and if you take all the seats out it is HUGE. We drove a three-seater sofa all across Spain and France in it last year.

    The Octavia would be good.

I agree with everyone and go for a 5 door. I bought my 5 door 2 years before child and I am so glad I did at it makes it easier getting in and out of the car. Now I have 2 children it makes it doubly more easier than a 3 door to get them all in l.

    5 door 5 door 5 door.`

We had a 3 door astra when baby no 1 arrived and had to change it within 6 weeks as it was so difficult to strap the rear facing car seat in whilst sitting on the folded front seat! The seats weigh a ton without the baby! When the baby reaches about 4 months old it is really heavy to lug about in the car seat! Child has to be in the back because of the air bags.

When baby no2 arrived my 5 door astra wasn't big enough to accomodate the double buggy (one behind the other not side by side version), and no chance if you needed to put in the travel cot to go away as well. We had to spend £150 to buy a roof box + £100 to buy roof bars. Buy a bigger car in the first place!

Baby no.3 (we had no intention of having 3) most 'family' cars do not accomodate 3 car seats in the rear seats!!!!!! By the time you have a 0-9 month car seat, a 9 month - 5 years car seat and a booster seat - they don't all fit - well not in a vectra anyway. Had to change to MPV.

I do hope the sofa enjoyed the trip ...

It is possible to manage a family in a smaller car. We had an Astra or a Cavalier when the (3) boys were smaller, wasn't really a problem. I had a small fold-up buggy for the car boot, and kept the larger push-chair / pram for going out from home. If it doesn't fit, you can't take it, and you can 'get by' without the kitchen sink.

We did borrow a top box one year, and then we got a Saab with a cavernous boot. But now we drive a Yaris, and can get 3 towering lads in the back, plus enough luggage for a weekend away. That is actually quite a challenge!

For a second car, although I'd always go for 5 doors, small is beautiful for me!

    !

It arrived safely at our house in Spain despite having two car seats, a computer monitor, an roll-up inflatable kayak, a wet suit and associated clothing, three suitcases, a set of chair cushions and a cuddly pink squeaky pig on top of it.:rotfl:
