Borrow a friend with kids, and or just her carseats.
Try to take a rear facing baby seat & a 9-14 kg stage 0+/1 seat with you.
(If you have no idea what i'm taking about try this and this)
They are HUGE.
I had an octavia (which I see other's are recommending as larger than than golf) & I had to change it for an even larger car.
With the baby in the rear facing seat, I could not have the driving position as far back as I would like...and I'm not tall. Yes - he did have to go behind my seat, so that I could park and we could both get out the same side, when there wasn't a M & B parking space around.
When he moved into the next size car seat, as soon as his legs grew, he'd kick me in the back. :eek:0 -
thing is my car is really a 2nd car so for long journeys we would use my hubbys car (I know cars should not be his and mine but thats how we have always referred to them.)
Looking at all the replies so far I am guessing I should really be practical and go for a 5 door!0 -
My SIL knackered her back getting the baby in and out of a 3 door car...I'd say 5 door too...
although personally I'd go for the 3 door and do without the baby0 -
The other thing that hasn't been mentioned is cost. Having babies is expensive, don't saddle a large car loan around your neck.
Many parents find themselves stretched after the birth of their child as the best laid plans go astray.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

no, I should be able to sell my car and bank about 2500.00 and still buy a Golf outright.....I have no car finance....I own the car outright, I have always been a good saver. Alose thinking about doing the change now while there is still the value in it that there is.0 -
I don't have kids, but would still vote for the 5 door. We've got a 3 door and a 5 door Astra. The 3 door is a pig to get out of if you park on a sloping hill where you have to push the door against gravity as it's just soooooo darned heavy, and on a windy day it's downright dangerous.Make £2025 in 2025

Skoda VRS - 200 bhp in the petrol and 170 in the diesel available in hatch or estate. 0-60 in 6 seconds and used by police across the country as an undercover motorway persuit car.
Reason I know all this was got stopped twice by them. After the second time I went and bought one myself as between giving me three points all the coppers were talking about was how much they loved it. Apparently nowone expects to get stopped by a Skoda....
Have to admit its a superb drive and loads of room. Looks the business but very practical too. Would highly reccomend them. Think they came second in JD power and won the top gear customer satisfaction awards this year and I can see why.
Go for it.0 -
5 door without doubt.
I have a 3 door. And no money to change it. :rolleyes:Herman - MP for all!0 -
the disadvantage of a 3 door car which no-one else seems to have mentioned explicitly is that they open wider, so far greater risk of slamming the opening door into the car parked next to yours!
Bad enough to keep under control when it's just you opening the door to get in or out, downright impossible when you're trying to get a baby in or out at the same time!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Until the last year or two I'd have done anything to avoid a 5dr car. I'd still loath having something Peugeot 106 size in a 5dr, but a medium hatch like a Golf wouldn't be an issue anymore. Maybe I'm getting old!
The Golf TDI is nice though. My parents have MkV. Not in the slightest bit exciting, but reliable enough (watch for 50p shaped rear tyres on the inside!!!).0
