Fiat Multipla, common issues?
Options
I am looking to buy a Fiat Multipla next week. I've not owned a Fiat before and was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere I could download a checklist of common issues. I know Parkers . co . uk do these but they are £4.99 and I don't want to pay for something which I am sure I can get elsewhere for free.
I've been trawling different sites, and have an idea of most common issues like, door seals, rear hinges, excessive brake and tyre wear, would like something a bit more in depth though.
Cheers

Well, the main problem with the Fiat Foreplay is it's a erm, Fiat.
Nuff said!!
Buy a Honda CRV or a Scenic, perhaps...0 -
Indeed Fiat's generally do have poor reputations and I suspect justifiably so.
I once had a Punto courtesy car - good fun to drive but quality was laughable - there was a piece of panelling near the steering column hanging loose and the screw that should have been keeping it in place was plastic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd rather set my scrotum on fire than own a fiatHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Hi,
Here is two links that might be an interesting for you to read
FiatMultipla (2000-2004)
Fiat Multipla (2004 onwards)
and this one as well, clicky click
From whatcar website:
"There aren't any major scares, but owners complain of niggling faults that often boil down to the car not being well built in the first place.
Take your time inspecting the cabin and check that anything electric still works. JD Power customer surveys have criticised the durability of the seat materials and trim, and there have been problems with switches, especially the electric windows.
Because it's a wide car, also check the door mirrors for damage and ensure you can adjust them easily. Likewise, watch out for scrapes on each corner of the car and check that the doors haven't been dinged, which is easily done in car parks.
The petrol and diesel engines should be robust given regular servicing. But, beware of a blowing exhaust on the petrol - it's a one-piece design and not cheap to replace.
Fuel systems can give trouble, too, according to Warranty Direct data, so avoid any car that sounds rough, revs reluctantly or idles poorly."Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Check out https://www.multiplaowners.co.uk
The general consensus is the diesels have more problems. I have had a petrol for 4.5 years, it is now 7 years old and have had no problems (I bought a 4 year warranty when I purchased and have only claimed once for less than 200 quid), otherwise just tyres and annual independent garage £100 service plus mot deals.I think....0 -

That will be the fuse box cover, they are only 1/4 turn lugs, and can often not be put back properly after access. I have had 4 Mk2 puntos (JTD, 2x1.2 8v, 1.2 16v) and one Mk1 (1.2 Cabrio), all are built to a price obviously but for that price I still think they are comparable. The biggest and most expensive problems I have found are electrical with the Punto that costs more in diagnosis than cure usually.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Cheers guys, the help above is great. I did put the same request on a car forum and didn't get one single proper reply.0

Did you try the multipla owners forum on yahoo groups? I know this question has been asked several times and normally gets a very full reply. Unfortunately the search function on the yahoo forums is rubbish or I would do a search for you and post the reply here.I think....0

Do not buy the 1.6 petrol engine version, there unreliable gas guzzling rubbish.(in any fiat)
Despite previous opinions i hardly ever had a diesel in for major work, as mentioned its usually electrical problems or clutches.
My personal opinion would be for a 105jtd.
