Half Price/Reduced Tassimo Coffee Makers

This debate pops up quite regulary.
Why buy a machine that limits you to just a small selection of coffees? You need 2 pods to make a mug of coffee, and it is a more expensive way to buy coffee. You have no control over the flavour; eg. you can't add a little bit more for stronger coffee......0 -
I've had one of these machines for years and I can't fault it. For £50 it's a great deal.
I don't really think the selection should be considered limiting - there's plenty to choose from, with at least three types of standard black coffee, espresso, hot chocolate and different teas. Honestly I think if anyone is discerning enough to want a wider selection than that, they wouldn't be going for an automatic coffee machine. Get a decent coffee-maker with a milk steamer and experiment instead!
A mug of black coffee only uses one pod, not two. You'll only need to use two pods if you want to make something like a cappuccino or a latte macchiatto, both of which use dedicated 'milk' pods as well as the espresso. You can also experiment a little - I've found that an espresso pod followed by a Suchards hot chocolate pod makes a pretty decent mocha.

Thanks lofie... I won't buy it anyway if it takes special coffee... bad news...
Cheap machine but expensive coffee = not moneysaving (same with the posh razors you get)
If they aren't a success then in a few months time you won't be able to get the coffee anymore anyway...
Either way it could work out very expensive!
EDIT:
This on the other hand might be worth a look

If link doesn't work, search Argos for "Breville Instant Cappucino" (without the ") and its the £49.99 one...
If it takes instant coffee granules as i'm led to believe. From the Amazon reviews, might need to keep your receipt though as some comments that they may break a bit too often.
Checked the price for this coffee machine in my Argos as I was looking at buying this one at the beginning of the year but it was too expensive. It's priced up at £74.99!0 -

Me too cannot find the £49 version
I may plump for the tassimo, just hoping to get it for less than £99 - I checked out the pods, as the Nescafe ones are so high in fat and sugar, unless I'm looking at it wrong!!
No local sainsbury's though0 -

I rate the Tassimo highly for decaff coffee and hot chocolate
Am on the hunt for another now for my mum.
Pods are 2 (16 pod packs) for £5 in Tesco at the mo.0 -
Here's the review I wrote on Amazon...
The great think about 'pod' machines is that they are easy to use and pretty consistent. The coffee isn't up to the best you can get from a conventional machine, but, as a compromise between instant coffee and real espresso that's not far off the latter, these machines are perfect.
Keep cost in mind though. Pods cost a lot more than espresso beans or ground espresso coffee. That's probably ok if you don't drink a lot of coffee, but if there are two or more or you drinking several cups per day, pods make a noticeable hit on your supermarket bills. They add to the landfill mountain too.
PS You DO need two pods for a mug of coffee unless you like weak coffee.0 -
Gutted, wanted one of these for ages but my local sainsburys not selling any of their coffee machines at reduced prices0
