  • I always cover the keypad with my other hand when entering PIN into atm with Debit card, wonder how long before we need to use PINsentry style devices for everyday purchases...

  • I also always cover the keypad with my free hand. Didn't stop my card being cloned and being used to withdraw money from an ATM in Australia on the same day I used the genuine card in the UK! They would need the pin I presume to withdraw cash at an ATM whereas a signature is all that is required at a shop.

    Cards have been copied and pin's copied at petrol stations. Maybe they don't need to see you enter the number. They will often use a camera in a false ceiling. Maybe they are using keyloggers connected from the keypad to a laptop.

    Any form of security only makes it difficult for criminals, not impossible. And when the bank doesn't flag up an error when a card is used in the UK and Australia on the same day the security system is clearly inadequate.
