Hi,
My friend thinks I am a whizz with computers! But actually I'm not, so I'm here to ask your advice.
My friend is unsure whether to upgrade her computer software or not. She has an approx 5 year old pc which was custom made by an ex colleague.
It works fine - it has 512mb ram and 25gb hard drive with plenty of space left. She has an official copy of windows 98 but is currently running a "borrowed" copy of Windows ME.
She wants to know if it will be OK for her to upgrade to Windows XP or if it's going to cause her problems? I think it will be fine, what do you think?

The RAM and HD are fine but what processor? I run XP Pro on an old Celeron 667 mhz so it's clearly not all that demanding..0

It's a pentium III processor.0

what is the cpu speed. But from what you have said so far the machine will happily run xpDig inside; inside is the fountain of good, and it will forever flow, if you will forever dig.0

You should be OK installing XP but I would be tempted to do a fresh install
as then you wont have the dreaded ME XP clashes, Just make sure you have a genuine(full) copy, as Its a pain in the neck to get registered otherwise, and also back up
all important doc's and make sure you have all you drivers or know where to get them

Anyway, I've found out that the processor speed is 847Mhz.
Oh aah yeah, do'h,,,, Did you right click my computer and then choose properties to get this Mhz speed?0 -
No, system summary in microsoft help files where it says "Pentium(r) III processor GenuineIntel ~847 Mhz" under processor.
If I right click on my computer and then choose properties it only says pentium III processor and the RAM.0 -
