Wireless for Livebox in France

Hi, I'm currently on holiday in France and have got a Livebox (Orange) for the internet. I have got it working fine via the ethernet cable, however, I'm having problems getting it to work wirelessly.

With the installation CD -ROM, I get to a point where it asks for me to update, or probably add a new wireless network under Windows SP2. I have followed the instructions but can't get any further than this point. I have an existing wireless connection from home, but I can't seem to add a new one. Made more difficult as everything is in French.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks, David

ok leave the cd alnoe and add it manually
    1. look under the livebox and copy down the security/wep key
    2. swtich on laptop and get to the desktop
    3. press button 1 on the livebox to get the paring mode activated (flashing light on top)
    4. double click the wireless icon in the taskbar and you should see a list of networks - one of which will be the livebox
    5. double click the livebox network and enter the security key you copied down before
    6. enjoy :)
  • Honestly not trying to show how thick I am but how can you use an Orange Livebox in France? Have you signed up for broadband in both countries or does Livebox work differently to the traditional ISP I am used to?

Please don't snap if I am being too stupid!
If anything I say starts to make sense, PANIC!

I assume where he/she is on holiday has Orange Broadband. Orange is owned by France Telecom
  • We had to have seperate isp's when we were splitting our time between France and the UK even though we were using Wanadoo, at the time available in both countries no idea if this is still the case (been in the US for a while and only just come back), saying that though I seem to recall that although the French connection was broadband the UK was still dial up, it's approx' 4 years since we moved from France/UK to US.

Orange may be owned by France Telecom but can the two broadband networks really be run in the same way?

Not trying to be argumentative, I am genuinely curious.

I'm assuming it is separate connections!
France Telecom use the Livebox in France to provide BB, TV, VOIP etc

Hi, sorry for not being around...down at the beach, it's a hard life. 30111987 is correct, we have an apartment in the South of France. It is a seperate arrangement from our wireless in the UK.

Tried this but a couple of points
point 2 - don't have a desktop, only a laptop but more importantly
point 4 - when I double click the wireless icon, the windows pane that opens says 'windows cannot configure this wireless connection'

    Any ideas?

"Point 2 - don't have a desktop, only a laptop" He means the desktop on the laptop!
