My sister had £15,000 of debt by 19, (HSBC kept lending her money even though she only earned £400 a month. She isn't a good example though as she is now 29 and hasn't even considered paying it.
Debt free by Dec 2011 :)

I'm 35 and only just getting straight in the last year from years of reckless spending from as soon as I got my first pay packet.
It may seem harsh when all your mates are out nearly every night Omar but I wish I'd been sensible when I was your age.
How are your mates paying for their social lives? chances are some of them are spending more than they should but just haven't had their lbm yet.
invite them round for dvds, playstation games night and a huge pan of home cooked chilli/curry/pasta (they bring the booze) then you won't feel like you're missing out!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

I know it's not easy but I'd rather be debt free than in debt and p!ssing more money up a bus shelter. :)

Wow Southern Scouser. I'm so impressed with how much you have reduced your debts. That is brilliant. How did you do it so quickly?

Omar, I am 31 and was just starting my descent into debt at 23/24. I wish I had been more sensible like you as I am the one now staying in when my (sensible friends) are overpaying their mortgage and buying nice clothes! I still buy stuff but not on my cc. It will be worth it in the end and when you are my age I bet some of your friends will be still paying off debts.

I'm 28, started to get into debt at 18 but after 2 disasterous relationships, I ended up in a lot more!

Still, to put a positive spin on it, us who are becoming debt free in our twenties will have a more mature slant on extra income in our thirties.

If I had extra income at 24, it would have been spent on clothes, make up etc.. I'm currently looking forward to saving up for fabulous holidays and paying off my mortgage before I'm 40, much better in my opinion. :D

    Hiya Omar

Don't worry, at least you are doing something about it now!!

I was between 18 and 22 when I accrued my Debt and did not have my Lightbulb Moment until April of this year...when I think about how much money I have wasted it drives me INSANE!!!

I am now 30 and in £35k of Debt...aiming to pay it off before I'm 40...hopefully I will be able to do that!!

Good luck and keep us updated as to where you are with your Debts...coming on here really helps!! :)

I'm 29 and ever since HSBC gave me the option of having a credit card at 18, I have been in debt ever since! We never go out hardly except to the pub, we both have full-time jobs and part-time ones and we still don't have much disposable income.... Never mind-the only way is up!
    Debt free 2018 :)
