ok her is my story received a ccj and two defaults in 2005 after the loss of my wife i am unable to obtain sub prime cards but i am actively making progress to clean and eventually fix my file aswell as my rating i have paid off all outstanding debt (ccj and both defaults) and have been a month with no applications (searches of my file) i hope in a year or less one of the cards above will accept me as they refused even after a letter of appeal last month so that is my story if you feel like your in the same boat please post and we will all support each other many thanks darcy

When you say looking healthier clio, do you mean until the ccj drops off?
Mine was satisfied within 3 months of judgment 2006. ALl the rest of my credi accounts have lots of lovely 00000 and I do have a Halifax CC that I am managing well and they keep upping the limit. I am not spending regularly on it by the way, I am paying it off.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:

I'm a bit curious why you see having a CC as so important.

Now I know that if you travel a lot and need to book hotels or hire cars then a CC makes life a lot simpler.
However, people do manage to live quite well without CCs and certainly there is no point in using their credit facilities as their APRs are very high.

its not a need its just i want to build my score file up as this would get me a better rate when the market sorts its self out and i go for a morgage in a few years its not the apr im bothered about as i would charge small and pay off all my balance the day after just to get the score up i hope this makes sense it will just be used as a 0% tool

  • A few weeks ago I read somewhere/overheard someone talking... but for the life of me can't remember the exact details...MBNA have come up with a sub-prime card that helps customers with impaired credit ratings get a foot up the ladder. I think it has a low credit limit, summat like £500, plus a fixed APR of something (sorry, memory's gone)...but after a year you can choose to upgrade to a standard card, provided you haven't defaulted on any payments/been late/gone over the limit. Might be worth calling their Applications line for more info?

What is even more disturbing is that you have a pin-up gallery of these cards. Surely those judgements so long ago (3 years) don't still affect your CW'ness. I speak as someone also without CC's, possibly applying in a month or two (for travel purposes, internet purchases)
