Tryng to install XP SP3

Hi all
I've been trying to install XP SP3 for quite a while now and it gets to most of the through and then gives me an error about the registry and undoes it all again.
I've been having a wander round t'interweb and found that it may be because I've got an AMD machine with an Intel OEM image on it.
From what I can make out, I should have a file called amdk8.sys for power management, but I've got intelppm.sys which is the Intel version.
2 questions :-
Is this causing my problem?
How can I get XP SP3 to install?

It's what caused me problems. I simply booted into safe mode, disabled the intelppm.sys driver (just type into the command prompt:"sc config intelppm start= disabled") and then rebooted and installed sp3."She is quite the oddball. OK - so do I need the amdk8.sys file then?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

No need to install anything if your PC is already running (if you have it fine, if not then you didn't need it in first place). If you're using an AMD processor then the Intel driver is already redundant and not doing anything (other than causing SP3 installation problems)."She is quite the oddball. Thanks for that - I'll set a restore point (just in case), give it a go and let you know how I get on.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Assuming the PC works and you can reconnect to t'internet.
But it was exactly what caused my sp3 install to fail and it worked perfectly fine after I did the above. (Athlon XP 1800, Windows XP Pro OEM self build)"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

OK - I've got XP Home SP2, AMD Sempron 2400+
Does that make any difference?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Probably not. It seems quite random who is affected and who isn't by this specific problem (except it only affects OEM XP versions and AMD processors but not necessarily everyone with them)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi superscraper
I tried the command line text that you posted but all I got was the help-type entry when I pressed enter.
Is that correct?
I'm going to try and install SP3 again anyway, but thought I'd double-check.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Did you do it in Safe Mode and did you type it exactly (and without the speech marks)? I really honestly can't remember the response when I did it."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I typed:-
sc config intelppm start=disabled
and then I tried:-
sc config intelppm.sys start=disabled
And I got the same help-style text after both.
Just trying another SP3 install as I type so I'll let you know.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
