Orange Contract problem!

Hoping someone can give me some advice??? I have just finished my 18 month Orange contract so I want to upgrade and I like the Samsung Tocca phone. I started my contract in December 06 and then in March 07 took out Orange Broadband. Orange informed me yesterday that I have to wait until December before I can upgrade my phone (which will be 21 mnths) as when I took out broadband my contract started from that date in March 07!!! I was gutted as I wasn't told this when I took out the broadband. Orange informs me that I could upgrade early now but I would have to take out a 210 month contract. Any advice, help, ideas please?

Please note - I don't have a copy of the contract you signed up to, so I cannot say that this applies to you.

Looking at the terms for the broadband offer on the Orange site, it says....
New customers must sign an 18-month (or 24-month) mobile contract and an 18-month Broadband contract. Existing customers are able to re-sign to a further 18-month (or 24-month) mobile contract and must sign an 18-month Broadband contract. Existing customers who do not resign to a new mobile contract will be required to pay standard broadband prices for the remainder of your broadband contract where you do not have a mobile contract in place with us. Existing customers who sign up for Unique will need to resign an 18-month (or 24-month) mobile contract and an 18-month Broadband contract.

Therefore, you would be in one of two situations -

    1) You re-signed for your 18-month mobile contract in March 07 and it now expires in September 08. In this case, there isn't anything you can do unless you buy-out the remainder of your contract.
    2) You didn't re-sign for a mobile and are only contracted to broadband. If you change provider (say to O2) you will have to pay £20pm rather than £12pm for your broadband until the end of your broadband contract OR you can start a fresh contract with Orange with no changes.

If neither of these apply, either these terms were not in place when you signed up or I am missing something.

Are you on a 24 month mobile contract? That would explain why you can't upgrade until December.

Do you still have copies of your contracts?

  • Thanks for this. I am currently on an 18 month con tract which should have ended on June 23rd just gone but as I took out broadband 3 months after I opened my mobile contract I am tied in until sept 08 with my broadband!! I currently pay £5 month for Orange broadband, that was the deal at the time if I was on a £35 month contract phone which I was...... I asked Orange if I could transfer the orange broadband to my husband who is also on a £35 mobile contract with orange but they said that wasn't possible.

This is all a bit new to me as this was my first phone contract and I have never had to upgrade before as I was on pay as you go previous. I can upgrade now on my mobile but will be tied in a bit longer than 18 months and I want another really good cash back deal on a phone so I am looking out for some.

    wait till September....

I took contract out in Aug 06 but due to not being able between BT/Orange till April 2007 get BB I was re-contracted on the £5 deal for an 18'er, speed problems were happening 2 months in so they asked me to try 2MB connection ( ended up paying £5 a month for it but thats another story ! ) which tied me into a new 18 month BB contract, Aug 07 came & I went to leave over the 07744 issue as was SO angry & managed to get BB & mobile both on a new 18 month deal......

deal extended : Dolphin 35 500txt 500mins with 2000 Xtra X mins, unlimited texts, no handset £15 or £35 with N95 ( needless to say I took no hanset lol )

    BB Unlimited £5 :)
