passport application

  • Hey Guys. Thanks for all the posts so far.

I have been reading them as I have recieved the notification emails in my inbox - however this always seems to be when I am at a university computer and as I don't know my password for the forum off top of my head I have not been able to login and reply, until now.

The friend in question is in her second year of university so 19/20. When she told me that she would need her mums details, i assumed there would be some way around it for people in the same situation i.e. not in contact with one of her parents or able to make contact for whatever reason (that is not the issue).

From what I remember of the form when I applied for a renewal passport about a year or so ago - the form asked me for details of both of my parents. I believe this is a requirment if you where born after a certain date. You need to put their names, addresses, date of birth, passport number, place of birth and if applicable the date they where married.

I have asked a few people and one person has no contact with her dad and when she applied for her passport she just left it blank and completed the details for her mum and she got her passport back without any problems or further questions.

I think the only way to fully solve it would be to carefully read the notes which come with a passport form as I am sure there is something mentioned about this as I am sure this is a fairly(ish) common issue when people apply for passports.

When I find out either way for definate what to do in this situation I shall report back.

Ta for all the help so far, much appreciated - you have all been credit to the forum and the website. :-).

    Michael.

Also, a number of you have mentioned getting replacement or copies of birth certificates. I appear in the process of moving out of the family home and student houses in one place and into my first proper home (albeit it's still rented) I canot find either copy of my birth cerificates either the small one or the full big one.

I needed one a few weeks ago for a CRB form for my new university course, but i managed to use other forms of ID. However I realise that I really should get a copy of my birth certificate.

When I thought I needed one a few weeks ago i found a website from some goverment agency to get them online and posted to you for about £7, or about £30 if u wanted them quick. Is this the best way to do it as I was always under the impression you had to go to the registry office where your birth was originaly registered and get one from them and proving some way that you where that person.

My son applied for his first passport earlier this year and as he was born after 1st January 1983 he had to send his full birth certificate and give both my and his dads details on the application, he also sent a copy of our birth certificates because neither of us has a passport.

She should give the passport office a ring, I'm sure they've dealt with things like this before. Also I may be wrong but doesn't your nationality come from your father? if so she may be able to just give her fathers details.
